Are they buying berries from the market? You should make a small profit at first. Unlock fishing hut up the top center, the thing with the hammer, you may need a tent on your market to get enough influence
Import items and sell them in your markets to make gold early. You can put multiple gathering huts around one berry bush node to make sure you have plenty of berries to feed your people and trade to other towns.
There is nothing that you can import and sell for a profit
Several buildings can only be unlocked by increasing prestige (?) -the little star- and then collecting hammers, swords, or orbs for people, nobles, clergy. They're the buttons in the middle top. The star you increase by building stuff like signs, churches, etc. The quests that come along periodically asking you to get 5 bread allow you to pick which you want. Just trade for the bread at first.
As far as money goes. Don't build too fast. I know it has a quest to build a keep but that's really expensive so holf off because you won't have the cloth to complete it anyway. Check your economy. Sell berries and raw stone at first. Also don't over-buy land early on. You don't really need a second plot till you're ready to drop your wheat farm, if even then! Sell lumber once you unlock the tree planter.
berries are THE main income in the beginnings
make at least two forager huts, fully staffed, make two markets selling berries
export in the beginning berries also at the warehouse
berries are the easiest good to gather most conveniently & atm endless
I thought it meant I received new taxes, but several hours into my third attempt at a large town I realized that every territory I purchased increased my expenses!
Thanks, I've apparently made the exact same mistake. Time to start over :)
after that make a sawmill and wait until you have enough planks to get a warehouse and open the trade route.
then wait again to get the money up.
To get fish as early as possible, put up a market (DUH) then cover the stalls with blue or red covers, that increases your labor splendor level, which allows you to build the fisher hut.. another user on here told me in my own thread how to do all this...
