There is a bug with the monastery atm, sometimes it gets fixed if you edit it and add one more herb garden or apiary to it.
The priest is not needed yet, you cannot assign them.
I'm having the same problem. I'm in the process of editing the building to see if that helps at all.
So I originally built it with everything possible from the options (excluding the extensions) - couldn't add a monk. I then added an additional dorm - still couldn't add one.
I've just updated it again to have one of each extension type and it's let me add a monk!
try putting a well next to it, or in the cloister? How does the desirability look?
Didn't need a well in the end, but will add one anyway.
That is not the case, but the monastery has a bug and you cannot concede villagers as intended, will be fixed shortly
Monasteries are for monks and nuns. There also convents for monks and nuns. I can only speak for Germany here. :)
Yes, i know, convents in medieval times were mostly for women. I still hope we can send women into the monasteries in Foundation.
