No immigration due to villagers lack of housing
Seems like a bug because I have a lot of houses and some even with 6 pepople in them but yet it says that 55 villagers don't have houses. I have stagnated because of this and no new villagers seem to be joining because of this issue. Anyone else experiencing this?

When a villager's status is raised they have new needs. If these needs are not met they become unhappy. This could be a lack food, clothing, church etc.

They also need lvl 2 housing and a more desirable housing zone to upgrade their houses. If they don't get that they will try and move to a house that is more desirable. They might kick-out lower status villagers if it allows for that house to be upgraded.

If they can't find a house or plot of land to build on then they will leave their undesirable house and become homeless until they have better land to build on. (This is in review)

There are a lot of things that can increase the desirability including wells, churches, decorative items.

Currently it requires a large increase in the desirability, however we will be making some adjustments soon.

Immigration can be affected by these factors above and if the villagers are not happy; not enough housing; too much unemployment then new villagers will not want to join that village.

Villagers will also look to live close to their workplace now. If their houses are not closeby to their workplace they will look for a house that is. If they can't find one they will try to build their own. If they are commoners they will need a highly desirable housing zone to build the new house. As a guide, one hex from corner to corner is roughly the furthest they will want to travel.

I hope that helps to understand the mechanic. We are looking at the desirability balance but it is reasonably easy to reach the required desirability with decorations.

Yep, I vary between 30 and 50 people without homes and I have plenty of available residential area near all of my different work areas that there shouldn't be any issue. All of my villagers are employed and I can't progress without immigrants. :(

I have exactly the same problem, 2 games unplayable, i love this game but i'm a bit done...

Same here, I have free living places after unhappy ones who left, game still says there is not enough space and there is no migration... So I am stuck with 23 people, max was 29.

Yup... experiencing this right now. I have 29 people and its saying 7 doesn't have houses despite land being available
Listed issue:
Already exising houses became empty no villages moved in they basicly moved them self to homelessness.
Tested removing all houses in the town to force them to build new houses; they did not.

The villagers can only live in buildings that meet their needs. If such houses do not exist, they try to build them, if that is not possible, they will become/stay homeless.
Newcomers can't have a house at all.
Serfs need a straw house close enough to their workplace (the border is about one hexagon), they can't live in a stone house. Commoners need a stone house close enough to their workplace, they cannot live in a straw house, and to convert a straw house to a stone house it must be in an area of high desirability.
Since the conversion means that the Serfs can no longer live there, it only works if the Serfs can find/build a new house that meets their needs.

they just pushed an update a few hours ago maybe they fixed it. i got same issue
Either it's still broken or their changes to how desirability scoring are terrible and not expressed at all through game mechanics. Doesn't matter which one is true, it's not fun at all to grind to a halt an hour into the game because homeless wandering serfs are too good for the land I provide for building no matter how green the desirability layer is. Still waiting for a fix.

Commoners and Citizens need high desirability housing. If there is no other housing that they can move to for larger desirability then they will leave their current house.

They will build new housing if the zoned, empty, land is desirable enough. Placing wells and plenty of bushes around a zone should help it raise high enough.

Try significantly raising the desirability with decorations (the bush works well).

Ok for have a high desirability but what about 0 new immigrants with 90+ Happy of my people and a lot of good zoning ?
Victor Marx Jan 25, 2020 @ 9:58am
Hi @Ash I don't think its desirability that's the draw back here. The serf level houses are not upgrading to accomadate or become commoner level house even in Bright green zones.

If you have save files we can take a look at that will help highlight the issue. You can send it to support@polymorph.games or upload it to a file-sharing site and share the link here.
