Warehouse/Granary in the supply chain
I am having a little confusion on the exact roll of the warehouses and granaries in the supply chain. I was initially under the impression they only were needed in the supply chain for trading purposes but now I think they are integral to the market stalls and other businesses as well. I am a little confused on the roll of the runner. How many granaries and warehouses are need to maintain a good supply of goods to all the different businesses?
I really like this game as it expands a lot of the things I wish Banished had but I think Banished does a better supply management in separating the warehouse, market and trading post functions so they all hold supplies but aren't reliant on each other completely within the supply chain.
Any clarification on this and how many you need to maintain a well functioning supply chain.

Basically there are four reasons for warehouses/granarys
1. markets can only take goods from warehouses/granarys This only applies to markets. Your baker can also get flour from the mill, your carpenter can get wood from the woodcutter.
2. for trade
3. to actually store something. Production buildings can store 50 units each, a warehouse/granary can store 400.
4. to transport resources over the map. Your farm is down by the river but your mill is up on the mountain? Then you'd rather have a storekeeper bring the grain to a warehouse/granary on the mountain than your miller wasting his time on the road.

I was also really confused about the logistics in the game, but spent some time tracking where people went and figuring out the best building placements. If you can cluster wheat farm, mills and bakers in one area and dedicate a warehouse to them close by, it works better. Same for the charcoal/iron ore/smelter/blacksmith cluster.

Another thing is if you have a large city you can place needed supplies over the map from what I understand it seems that the transporters will go out and pick up the supply. So you can use the warehouses as staging points for lumber and stone. I normally will dedicate a game block to charcoal, wood, and lumber production. Then have warehouses out in the distant parts for stock. After that block gets its houses, market, and church up and running is when I normally will convert it to that blocks good production storage.
