Two Questions about Citizens
1. What is the ratio required for Citizens to Commoners; i.e., how many Commoners do you need to be able to promote one of them to a Citizen?

2. Are meals that are prepared in the tavern only eaten there by Citizens? Seems like you can't store them in the granary or warehouse, nor can you offer them for sale at the market.

I found promoting to citizen depends on the job. Onle certain jobs allow a villager to be promoted to citizen. You can see what jobs qualify by clicking on the job of any villager in the villager list.

for 2, yes, meals are sold together with wine or ale. it provides an income boost on the luxury need and does not count as food. soldiers and knights will also visit the tavern though, so you are not just depending on the citizens

OK, I see what you mean -- the line which extends over to "Citizen," right? But I still would like to know how many commoners I need to be able to promote one to the next citizen. Right now I have 182 serfs, a few newcomers, 50 commoners, and only 2 citizens. When promotion time has come around it has never offered me an opportunity to promote any more commoners to citizens. I read somewhere (forget what thread, or how long ago) that the number of citizens cannot exceed 30% of your total population, or some such.

[edit] OK, the next promotion event just happened, and I get to promote 3 more commoners to citizens: a level-1 blacksmith, a level-5 weaver, and a level-1 stone mason.

[edit] The next promotion event just happened; I still had 50 commoners and none was selected for promotion to citizen. I suppose your number citizens cannot exceed 10% of the number of commoners?

[edit] The next promotion event just happened; I now had 60 commoners and three were selected to be citizens. So I now have 60 commoners and 8 citizens.

@OP, there is no set ration for commoner to citizen. There is a prerequisite thou. A citizen must be employed into a high status job. It all depends on job status and living in a stone house. Low status jobs such as all farmers and gathers, transporters, builders cannot be promoted to citizen. Even if u change a citizen's job to a low status one, that citizen will devolve back to a commoner.
