Public Service Announcement: Berry bushes now die!
The berry bushes die off! This change means you can have too many berry harvesters! Just in this update, the gathering hut can take too many berries.

I missed this in the dev notes, and I guess Google searches haven't indexed anyone talking about this, so I'm going to go ahead and make a post about it!

Previous versions of Foundation, you could put gathering huts all around the berry bushes, but apparently that's gone away. Release notes say that now berry bushes will die off if you over-harvest and replenish gradually.

...so... that's new!

Yes the new berry bush system can accommodate up to 3 gathering huts.

The same regarding resource depletion applies to fish schools. Stone node groups on the other hand have a max worker limit of 5 villagers at a time.

Note berries and fish will regenerate a few weeks after depletion.

Was something else changed? I recently put two huts on one group of bushes and I constantly had issues with the 6th villager giving errors of unable to find a resource (assuming only 5 could work at a time.)

No that shouldn't be a problem we have 9 villagers working on one set of bushes and due to the need fulfilling cycles the berries regenerate on time for all of them to gather

Yeah I was thinking as I typed the early post I was probably running into the issue with the 6 works because it was early game and they were not busy filling needs because there was no places to go fill them, lol.

So basically it could be more than your 9 villager example depending on the distances to fill needs and such. However the actual "hard coding" is it only allows 5 villager at the same time?

No 9 is the maximum worker limit for now considering all needs being fulfilled in a 1-2 hex radius. If you add more than that then the berries deplete too fast and they will be forced to wait until they respawn.

I think there is a hard-coded limit of 1 worker per berry bush in the game, i.e. each berry bush node has 5-6 bushes so 5-6 simultaneous gatherers.

Great to know then. That 9 should be fine. Especially once you citizens start filling needs making room for the other workers while they are away. Almost like a self imposed shift system.

The point you mentioned in this topic was in the changelog of the news for the bad weather update (point 11 I guess):

That 9 workers without fully depleting is new information for me. Here I was with just 1 gathering hut per bush like a chump.

On a related note... Anybody know if the number of sheep I spawn changes wool production? Or is that just cosmetic?

I'd test it out but just got that resource chain up and running in my new game. Don't want to mess it up

A shepherd can sheer up to 4-5 sheep per cycle so having more than that is purely cosmetic

Am enjoying the game a lot and some of the questions i pose to myself have been answered in response to other posters,so thanks for that!
One question i havnt found answered is the Wheat Farms - the area for production is set by us but i feel that i dont get the full value from each farm - i do enlarge and decrease the crop field but some seem bigger than others
Also, currently we have no way to de - forest an area without bldg another lumber camp and manning it
i have recently found i can use wooden gates to the same effect to clear an area and then delete them which is handy, but is it planned to add a removal tool?
Ive also shamelessly stolen your bridge locations and seeing how u placed it in the latest vid has opened up a lot more possibilites
thanks for sharing and thanks for a great game and im also looking forward to the additions the update will bring

To easily clear an area I recommend using decorative trees. At least that is what I normally do in game :D

For farms, if the workers are efficient, they can plant a field up to the largest brush size so you can use that as a guide.

Note: efficient workers means they live, work, and can fulfil all their needs in a 1-2 hex radius :)

thanks for the swift response

ill give that a go as soon as i can get back to my poor villagers ..

Back to the OP regarding berry bushes depleting. The 9 workers mentioned earlier is incorrect. I set up a second gatherer on a bush and hired 2 new gatherers. With 5 workers it was fully depleting.

It was recharging pretty quickly, so little disruption in output. But 9 workers on one bush is way too much. 5 seems to be the sweet spot.
Minotorious Oct 9, 2019 @ 12:47pm
As I wrote above 9 workers is the maximum limit when villagers have needs cycles (house, food, water, church, etc.) which slows down their productivity.

At the start of the game when villagers have no needs and are 100% efficient 6 villagers will deplete the bush.

I am guessing that last one is your case ElDuderino
