advice for GT rally
hi people,
out of curiosity, i have a really hard time with this category, it appear frequently on the daily challenge, and i try hard. but gosh it's so weird for me to control them.
i understand they are big engine rwd cars, but i can't get them to act like a proper rally car. even on relatively easy stages i more than often cannot get any speed without losing control.
i am missing something, should i use the handbrakmore often, what are the things i shouldn't do at all in rally gt?

For setups I recommend this page:

https://www.youtube.com/@RALLYTechnical/search?query=Dirt%20Rally%202.0

Do not always give full throttle as these vehicles have rear-wheel drive and are prone to skidding.

Apparently they have too small a steering angle and the steering reacts too sensitively as a result.

Go to Free Play and Free Driving.

Adjust the steering for the GT vehicle so that you can handle it.

Try out different settings until you get a feel for the vehicle.

For example, I set the steering wheel to 540 degrees and I get on well with it.

GT cars are very toxic and if you accelerate too much, the rear end comes in and they spin.

Ergo: use the accelerator pedal very carefully.

They cope better with the right settings.

In the beginning I also drove with a gamepad and then switched to a steering wheel.

With the right settings, you can handle the vehicles better.

You should only use the handbrake with feeling in very tight bends,

You can also search the Internet for setups for your gamepad or steering wheel.

thanks for the tips!
Do you use soft tyres?
You can practically always use them and that helps a lot.
And otherwise, as already mentioned, be smooth, let the car roll and don't slam the brakes.
And only really accelerate when the car is pointing in the direction you want to go.

I can also recommend starting with Aston Martin, probably one of the most stable Rally GT out there, it helped me a lot getting into this category
Stop using the chase-cam?
: }

I can only catch (counter steer) RWD cars in Bonnet-view.
In chase-cam there is too much lag.

What view do you drive?

Usually the hood view. I'm starting to get how to ride the category. Nearly done with the monthly challenge. I'm not super fast, but clearing stages clean is a first step
Nicely done!
Have you noticed that taking corners can be incredible smooth when driving in RWD?
There is this sweet spot wherein you can hold your drift very comfortable and just flow through the corners.

Once you are familiar with this specific bandwidth you can make any RWD dance.
And you’ll never have to use a handbrake or clutch-kick again : )

RWD’s are incredible elegant once you can finesse their powerband.
Trouble is, it’s very difficult to transfer this into a video-game.
Especially if you are going by visual feedback only.

I also entered the Monthly RWD Challenge with my brand new BMW M2.
Never touched the car before, because the Aston Martin and Porsche 911 are my bread and butter.
But the BMW M2 is actually pretty fast and appears a lot more manageable than the Aston,
which in comparison now feels like driving a boat : )
This game keeps surprising me!

What are you driving in the Challenge?

using the camaro, it got a heavy handling, but i like feeling the weight especially on tight corners.
started not too shadily honestly, second event was new england, and i love the setting. did fairly well until the last stage where i lost 40s after ripping a wheel off. Last stage is argentina, and that one is a big big trouble to me. i think i need a shifter or a handbrake for that one. i understand how i should take these section without too much place to navigate, stay in a low gear, rev the engine and powerslide. But in auto mode, that's impossible.

Try pulsating your throttle in tight spaces.
I find it more reliable than clutch-kick or handbrake on RWD’s.

Good luck in Argentina.
I also just entered the Event.
It will be a good test for the BMW.
