Just in case you've gone that way, you very much want to avoid the RWD and Group B cars while still new to things (heck and maybe still for a long time after). FWD and 4WD classes are much easier to control.
If you're in My Team mode, also be aware that the R5 class is going to be too expensive on repairs to actually benefit from for a long while. Perhaps the 2000cc class as well, but especially the R5s.
The H1 class has the Fulvia which comes with free repairs, so that's your path to grinding up some credits without being penalised too heavily for being new. More importantly, sitting on the Fulvia means getting used to the game's level of punishment at its most gentle levels. When you move to a higher class you'll then be more likely to drive with the mindset of "How does this go compared to the H1 class?", instead of "How does this go compared to Forza?"
Unfortunately the game just isn't really welcoming to new players; that's not its shtick. In terms of its career mode there's nothing you can do that makes things easier except for selecting cars you can stay in control of, and getting better at driving those cars. Higher classes and higher leagues do mean bigger winnings, but that never translates to easier wins.
Edit - Actually there are some things you can do to make it a bit easier:
One thing that's a bit of a pain is that the Career Rally difficulty is set for all vehicle classes at the same time, so once you've beaten the easiest difficulty league (Open) with the Fulvia, you can't go back to that easier difficulty and do it again with a higher vehicle class unless you first deliberately sabotage a run to demote yourself again. Whatever league you make it to with your best car is the only league the game offers for all cars.
TL;DR
Drive the first one carefully and without incidents (no worries if you drive like a grandma) and then when you finish the track just beat your own time. Much more fun if the AI or other people are too hard. This game is really hard but also overwhelmingly more fun than arcade games once you master it and can stay on track.
It is never fun to compete against something thats way over your league.
You can also set a time on a stage, view its leaderboard, and look at the players who have times near yours. You can then select their ghosts to compete against so you know you're competing with some actual runs made by players near your level, and if you want, friend them on Steam so you can bounce times and ghosts off each other. I made several Steam friends that way.
It has the added benefit of meaning you can drive a rally stage and actually see other cars on the track with you.

If u are using the wheel have u lowered rotation, don't drive using 900degrees(or soft lock rotations). Set rotation to 540degrees in your wheel control panel and u will have more fun playing this game(once u get better then maybe start using authentic rotations of the cars).

- in career drive R2 car(modern front-wheel drive so easy to drive, take the Ford), your new car is missing upgrades so u need to drive it enough to unlock them(engine mappings) and then buy them (ai cars have full power from start so u lose a lot to them in the beginning)
In career or when there's less than 40km/25mi to drive use soft tires, except in Monaco take winter tires and on when there's wet asphalt then take wet tires.
- don't drive over your limit in the beginning when u don't know the stages (trying to gain 1-2s in a corner->crashing losing over 10s +damaging the car is not worth it), listen to co-driver, if the road is visible like straight then u can drive faster and if u can't see the road properly and u don't trust co-driver then just slow down extra more.
- don't retire even if race goes bad, continue to drive through events and stages to learn them better (pacenotes could be bad in some corners and u need to know them since there's no way to change it), save restarts for punctures etc but maybe even try avoid taking those too(if u need to use restarts u are most likely still pushing too much).
- once u become better/faster then adjust co-drive calls earlier if u start getting them too late for corners
