- Disable Cloud in Steam settings.
- Close Steam
- Delete all folders called 690790. Or name them 690790 BKP. They all belong to DR2 only. One of them is Screenshots if you have any you want to keep. (You may have to unhide all files and folders. Google if you don't know how to do this).
- Restart PC
- Start Steam
- Enable Cloud in Steam Settings
- Launch DR2.
Note:
These folders are left behind when uninstalling, so you HAVE to remove them manually.
Don't worry, new folders are created automatically when you start the game. You usually
do not have to uninstall the game.
P.S.
I recommend installing Everything Browser. After it have localized all your files,
it will find what you look for instantly.
IMPORTANT:
DO NOT just disable Cloud as suggested earlier in this thread. It will mess with your saves...
Hope this fixes your problem.
Cheers :)
If so, if I am forcing that executable to open, simply just more aggressive clicking on an icon, eventually it will launch, but as I am doing it seems steam theater is what is crashing the game.
I don't know why but that's one way how to force launch game.
Thanks for the suggestions but still have the same problem
It's just a known solution that actually works with many games, and is easy to do. It is also
not as drastical as reinstalling Windows OR the game, so it's just something to try before
going crazy ;) And as mentioned, these folders are not deleted when reinstalling the game,
so if they are corrupted, reinstalling will not help.
If you have had VR installed, it may also affect the startup. Leftover folders may cause
problems after you uninstall VR software. Steam or games may search for folders that
belongs to software you have uninstalled. If it finds some leftovers, things may go wrong.
For VR, try this search in the DR2 General Discussions (this forum): "cannot launch vr" and
"cannot start vr", there are some solutions. You can also Google those, as VR problems are
often same with other games. Codies are also working on VR fixes for patch 1.8..
Easiest way I know to get rid of leftover registry keys and folders, is to reinstall the VR soft,
then uninstall it again with Revo Uninstaller (FREE). During the uninstall process, choose
to search for Registry key and Folders at Medium setting. Delete everything it finds. You
should do this in Safe Mode to make sure none of the folders are in use when you delete
them.
If you use VR:
Another problem with VR is that the software may be corrupted. Use Revo Uninstaller to
remove like described above, and install the soft again. Make sure that Steam is not
running, and also follow instructions about having USB devices connected or disconnected
accordingly during installation.
There may be other solutions, I'm only providing solutions I use myself and have had
luck with in the past. Up to you if you want to try or not. You could always wait for help
from Codies Support .... LOL ... Don't hold your breath... ;)
It's still a good idea to report your problems in the BUG thread. That way it may get fixed in
a patch.. Remember to list ALL your specs. (Example under INFO in my Profile).
Cheers :)
