Side by side in Rally Cross (circuits )- Yes
Rallycross mode does have head-to-head racing with both cars on the same track, collisions, etc.
Thats only Time Trial ghosts..
I speak of actual multiplayer lobby game, not time trials..
And the fact that it supports ghosts for time trial makes it even more disappointing to have this option not for multiplayer.
The fundamental problem with that (as far as DR2 is concerned) is that TT has no surface degradation. TT ghosts as-is would be unviable to be used outside TT, as every other mode makes use of surface degradation.
While I obviously have no clue what exactly goes behind the scenes, the difference of surface degradation vs not is pretty significant the more you actually have experience in the game. It is part of the reason why sometimes gauging relative time difference of say, non-TT world records vs TT world records can get messy. TT records are always done in perfect surface without any blemishes, non-TT records can be subject to a lot of more busywork and rough estimations because even if cheesed to have "optimal" surface with softs, it will be more slippery than TT ever will be even with hard tyres.
I suppose it is possible they could have implemented said feature, but it would also mean depending on specific conditions outside TT, each ghost would be at best, vague guideline potentially given it has a lot more to do with potentially subtle, but notable feature DR2 has.
Who still dont want them - just turn them off. Problem solved.
I think you understood me wrong. I dont want to pick a time trial ghost of leaderboard.
I want to see my actual opponents with me in the multiplayer lobby as ghosts!
