i am very pleased that dirt rally 2.0 is far easier to play with a controller compared to DR1 but i wanted to ask the community how you configured your DS4? any tips on getting the best out of my pad?

i use only the steam driver, no DS4 for windows and i didn't change anything in the controller configuration menu for dirt rally 2.0 even though the first entry says "playstation 4" config.

in game i use these:

Steering Sensitivity: 90
Steering Linearity: 4
Braking Saturation: 90

FF is set to 150% wherever i could change anything. to be honest, it's not enough

Depends on your liking. DR1 has slow steering rate and it's rather unplayable. Your settings looks fine.

In game u want to to adjust these settings:

Steering sensitivity
Steering linearity
Steering deadzone

Keep Steering saturation at 100% because u don't have much movement on the stick and u don't want to reduce it by having less than 100% here.
I don't think u need to adjust Throttle, Brake saturations or deadzones from 100%(saturations) and 0% (deadzones) if triggers are functioning properly.

If I would be using a controller I would have buttons mapped something like this
- Throttle: Right trigger
- Brake: Left trigger
- Clutch: Left bumper (enable Clutch Override so u can clutch kick when using sequential transmission, or even when driving with automatic gearbox)

- Gear Up: X
- Gear Down: Square
- Handbrake: Circle
- Look Back: Triangle
- Reset (back to road): Right Bumper

What would come controller settings I would start with these values:
- Steering Saturation: always 100%
- Steering Sensitivity: 100 (if I would need slower steering even with Linearity at 10 then I would lower this value, 95->90->85->80 etc until it's good)
- Steering Linearity: 10 (if I want faster steering I would lower this, 8->6->5->4 etc until it's good
- Steering Deadzone: 10 (I would keep minimum of 10 always even when stick centers perfectly just to make driving straight line easier, but people are different so test between 0-20 to see what works best for u)

thank you for your detailed answer!

i used this

setup in gran turismo so i will feel right at home =) still i don't touch manual transmission because i don't have enough experience with rally cars to determine when and how to switch gears.
in GT it's quite easy, even if you don't use the suggested gears shown by the game.

right now i want to focus on driving only and when i feel that i have more and more control over the cars i will try and go for clutch/sequential.

is there any particular stage and car you could recommend to reliably test these settings?

U should learn manual shifting because it's good way to limit speed in corners/straights using gears rather than just braking or lifting throttle. It shouldn't take that long to learn it by driving same stage over and over again and then implementing what u learned to other stages/locations.

If u drive form cockpit view where seat is adjustable then enable Instrument cluster to all cameras (in Options->osd-settings->instrument cluster: all cameras) to know the gear you are on and when to change gear up. Most cars have displays and gear change lights in the dash but those might not be visible properly after seat adjustments, but with osd instrument cluster u always see the gear properly and background of that gear number turns red when u are supposed to shift up.
After a while u will also learn to shift by ear in some cars but in lot of cars u also need to redline before shifting.

U should test all kinds of cars, fwd, rwd and 4wd.

For cars I recommend trying:
- Fwd: H2 fwd, R2 class
- 4wd: NR4R4 Subaru+Mitsubishi, try all R5's, try all 2000cc cars, try all Group A cars
- Rwd: H3 rwd BMW e30 M3, Datsun 240Z are maybe easiest rwd's both on asphalt and gravel, also R-GT cars with some traction control which they got irl too (try tc 2 or tc 3) should be quite manageable on dry asphalt (germany, spain). Minimize drifting and drive them like track cars which they're really are (GT4 cars).

For a gravel location try New England USA which has quite flat and wide roads. For asphalt surface try Spain stages.

thanks again for the tips and suggestions.

would you recommend driving in cockpit view only?

clutch override: ON
transmission: manual sequential?

U can use what ever camera but if u want to have it 100% realistic like I do then cockpit view, u can move seat closer/further, up/down and tilt the view to make it better, u can put field-of-view higher to increase sense of speed if it feels a bit off in cockpit view.

yes use manual sequential and clutch override on when doing manual shifting
