Question about manual h - pattern with clutch
When I put my car into 1st gear, I can't launch without it turning off, is it meant to be this way?
The only way I can launch is by reving in neutral and then quickly shifting to first.

Hold handbrake not working?

not working

Definitely not meant to be that way. You should be able to launch by releasing clutch while on 1st gear. Check your clutch and handbrake

Do you have a physical clutch and shifter?
Tux Oct 12, 2020 @ 12:25am
I have a physical clutch and shifter, but my handbrake is mapped to a button on my g920 wheel. Everything works fine when I put it in manual h pattern (without clutch)

Silly question I know but you are depressing the clutch before engaging 1st ? Also maybe check clutch override game setting is not on.

Gluck anyhoo

Having the handbrake mapped to the wheel is fine, that's how I have mine. Make sure your handbrake isn't somehow mapped backwards (unpressed = active). I'm not sure if that's possible in this game but I've seen it in others. Also, make sure you 100% have the stick placed in gear before the clutch is released at all or you will have to take it back out of gear and re-clutch and re-shift it back into gear.

I have no problem with shifting gears using the clutch, and the handbrake seems to work fine. The problem is when I put it into a certain gear and try to accelerate the car just stalls. However, if I do it really really slowly it starts moving without stalling, but I am aware that it should just launch and move normally. I also tried turning the "clutch overdrive" on and off but it didn't change anything...

This means your revs are not high enough to sustain the launch from the line. When you drop the clutch in a car for a fast take off, the wheels will either spin or grip (depending on surface and amount of power used). If you have enough revs, the car will pull away and gain speed. If the revs are not high enough, the engine will bog down and stall, as the revs ALWAYS drop when you launch a car from a stand still.

Yes, but I can't rev in any gear, or hold the handbrake to rev in any gear except neutral

With this in mind, I should still be able to rev in 1st gear right?

So long as you are holding the clutch down while building revs.

In a real manual car when you put it into gear in order to start driving, you have to keep the clutch pressed while you build revs in order to pull away. You would then slowly release the clutch in order to start moving. For normal road driving, you would find the "bite" point of the clutch and have around 2k rpm in order to pull away safely and smoothly, and modulate the throttle and clutch as you build up speed till you change to second gear. Then you would fully remove your foot from the clutch till you need to change into 3rd gear, and so on.

In DR2 (and other racing games that use the clutch), you need to do the same thing where by you hold in the clutch in order to build revs; if you have the game set to use "manual H-pattern + clutch. Failure to do so will result in an inability to build revs, as well as cause an engine stall.

For DR2.0, you want to build up far more than 2k rpm revs though, as you need to remove the clutch a lot quicker while maintaining traction and gaining speed. Ideally you you want to be above 4k rpm in a FWD or RWD car. In an AWD car, you would the revs even higher still in order to get a decent start. AWD cars offer more traction due to their drive layout, so much more likely to bog down with lower engine revs.

If you watch the below video, you will see that when starting a stage with full manual H-Pattern and clutch, I have the clutch firmly pressed all the way while revving the car. As soon as I get the green light, I fully remove my foot of the clutch pedal. You can see my foot move in the bottom left wheel cam footage. Also, the blue line on the telemetry that shows on the bottom of the screen shows the clutch application. A solid blue bar is 100% clutch pressed. Green bar is throttle, red bar is brake.

Thank you very much for your generous and informative reply, however I still can't seem to rev whilst holding the clutch in first gear for some reason.

In this case, I have to advise checking all cables are connected properly for your wheels/shifter/pedals, and going through to check all your wheel and shifter bindings, in order to make sure there is no conflicts or other mapping issues. I would also recommend running through the wheel and pedal calibration, just to be on the safe side. Its possible your clutch is inverted for some reason, so running through the wheel calibration could solve that. Video attached below will show you how to calibrate your wheel in game.
