Most players seem to suggest that the exterior cameras are worse overall, though: Some blind corners are harder to see and the view might get completely blocked by vegetation etc. I'd imagine the 1st person views make more sense with a wheel as well.
Unless you use VR, the window posts will block the view when sliding.
On 3 screens setup, it is impossible to get correct view in this game, so you end up sitting in the back seat, which feels really strange since it also does not match the point of rotation.
Many people have a cockpit on their room, where the screens are placed where the windows would be. Having a cockpit in the cockpit makes no sense. So bonnet cam is the correct view
in most cases when you use a wheel.
Off course, Codemasters does not understand this, so they wrongly call bonnet cam for assist in the menu, which understandably confuses people.
If you set up your own races, you can restrict the view to HeadCam. You will loose many participants though, for the reasons I just described.
Cheers :)
absolute best, least-obstructed and furthest-forward view that still has a point of reference for spatial awareness
that's probably the same reason people use the t-cam in F1 games as the proper cockpit view is incredibly claustrophobic... and it's not even as low (ergo as obtrusive) as sitting in the cockpit IRL
i always use proper cockpit view in games that allow for it, but i can understand why people prefer hoodcam
Now for instance in each sector on track people who are in the very lead of the leaderboards have 10 seconds over my own time, when I drive on the limit in cockpit view I simply can't go faster without taking much more unnecessary risk versus reward (in this case reward being time gained) that people who drive in full car view simply don't face because they can see better versus me having to estimate corners etc...
This time gained by opponents in each sector, in this case every sector being 10 seconds over my own time, and I drive in or near on the limit couldn't consequently be gained I think if they were driving in cokpit view, where the times if everyone did this would be more closer together opposite to having like 10 seconds difference.
People are fast because they are fast, not because of the view they use. Fair, it makes it easier to see in the rain with an external view. But top times can still be set in cockpit view. Its not cheating for someone to use a different view to you, they are in the game, and they are allowed to be used by Codemasters. If you want cockpit only rallies, you have the option to set up a club and lock it to cockpit view only.
If you dont believe me, here is my driving in cockpit view and setting high LB times -

(Non-VR. This time is much faster now than shown in the video, see below) https://youtu.be/xRwTM22Pa5M?t=533

I always drive cockpit view, regardless of whether I am in VR or not. I use a racing wheel, and I go for as much immersion as I possibly can. And as you can see, I can top the LB's.
The only disadvantage you have, is your own negative attitude, your belief that people are only faster than you because of the view they use. That is absolute horse manure, and it devalues the skills that people have developed in order to do well.
The only thing that time gap shows, and your insistence that you are driving at the limit, is that you have reached your own personal limit. But you can push past that and get faster, but you have to stop blaming the view used, or blaming some other arbitrary reason for it. Practice, learn, improve. Thats how it works. If you want to decrease that 10 second gap, then you have to put in the work!
Honestly it doesn't bother me that the took away the cockpit cam as a difficulty requirement to place on the leaderboard.
A simple way to fix the issue is to just not let it bother you. Play the game and have fun find lines that work best without needing that spacial awareness. If your having fun you should place just fine on the leaderboards "top 100".
The more you care about how the reason some people are faster than you and they should be penalized because they are not playing realistically should be about you yourself getting more track knowledge and experience.
Trust me people who use the hood cam to get close to walls cut corners and slide better. sometimes miss braking zones and overcook entry because the sense of speed is reduced in hood cam. Often times leaderboard ranks drop because they think they drove the best they can one time.
Don't let it get to you just enjoy the game.
As it stands I am having fun driving the car and it's just the fact that I like to compare my times to opponents times but when I see someone so far ahead of me I of course get a bit discouraged especially since I find out that everyone basically with top time's 'cheesing' or downright cheating so this makes me insecure and I can't orient by the ways of leaderboard because that's unreliable.
I think one valid option here would be to just simply have specific tags of what someone is driving with for instance cockpit view or 3rd person camera.
Another neat option for the game would be ghost cars but this totally aside.
Did you even look at my post above and the videos I linked showing top LB times while in cockpit view, or are you just ignoring it to keep the "they are cheating" line going?
I record my top runs precisely because people like you that accuse those faster than them of cheating.
