And games from now one will require even more and more HDD/SSD, prepare for games of 200GB, 300GB and more in some years.
What really is insane to me is the ~10 years of stagnation in available storage-volume in the average PC because of the price-hike in NAND flash based solutions that we have finally transitioned into.
Sure took a while, though.
Well I am sure there are games that take even more, but currently Dirt 2 is more than 2x more than anything else I have installed. And it just grows bigger with every DLC because there is no opt-out of downloading it (like I did not play and probably never will any Rally Cross track, they are just taking space without reason).
To qoute your link "At launch this was around 50 GB" - so there should be option to keep it that way if you don't want anything else. Now it is more than 2x more in size.
It is developer answer for the reason why all content is downloaded despite you not owning it.
It even says "100 GB available space" on steam store page HW requirements so if it actually requires 108 GB it is quite a fail. Also if you meet requirements now you expect to meet them also in future (as long as you don't purchase any more DLC which can of course increase HW requirements). If you require 2x more space now with base game compared to what was advertised in past - that I consider bad business practice.
I think I would need to upgrade my 500GB SSD soon
Well I have 1TB SSD but Dirt 2 is not the only thing there and it is taking more than 10% of the space now. I can somewhat accept that on games you install, play, uninstall, but Dirt 2 is played over longer period of time.
