Why are R5 cars so difficult to drive? Comparing R2 and R5
Hello everyone,
Now I'm not a particulary good player and I'm playing with my trusty XBOX 360 gamepad. However I did notice that R5 cars are incredibly difficult to drive compared to the R2 class, so much so that I'm faster with my Peugoet 208 R2 than with my Citroen C3 R5.
Thing is I don't quite understand why. Yes the R5 cars have more than 100 bhp more available, however I don't get why they slide so much.
The C3 behaves like driving on solid ice very often while the Peugoet remains very solid on the road, even when slightly leaving the track and hitting a bump at 170kph.
They're both 4x4, only have a very slight weight difference which I think should be compensated by the C3 being a bit wider and the only realy difference seems to come from the power output.
Is there a trick to driving R5 cars that I'm not aware of?
Thanks in advance for any advice :D

Greets,
Des

With a steering wheel the R5 cars are one of the easiest 4wd cars to drive in the game so it sounds like you need to have a look ar your controller settings. I think there are some settings floating around here somewhere..

Could be. Throttle and break control is not all that easy with a gamepad either. You can do a bit of variation in the high throttle ranges but mid throttle there is basically nothing there.
Thanks need to dig into this and see if I can find something.

R5 cars are maybe 2-3s/km (3,2-4,8s/mi) faster than R2's. Higher speed everywhere can mean smaller margins, like no time to react when u make a mistake even if handling is(should be) better (with better handling I mean 4wd, more efficient brakes, suspension etc).

If u are using controller/game pad then front-wheel driven(R2's are fwd) are easier to control because of the understeer they have when being on throttle, u can just turn max amount in corners without losing grip in the rear compared to rwd and 4wd cars (4wd still have torque bias more in the rear, usually R: 60-70% / F: 30-40% ratio). To make 4wd cars easier to drive on controller u could change torque bias towards front (like 60%) if it's possible in the setup, though it can make them slower.

Tuning is more important than in DR1 or D4. Each car or at least each class needs its own setup. And R2 is FWD, FWD is for the most people easier to control.

@DesRoin
throttle and break control is maybe the easiest point on controllers. It's a value of 0-100 and you can reach each step with an controller. Of course, may have gross motor skills or people with fast trigger setup so their problems...

You're right thought it was 4x4 as well which explains a lot ^^'
I suppose I'll stick around with R2 for a while and learn the controlls more to get better. It's a really enjoyable class anyway even though on some tracks the AI seems to have a tiger in the tank
The different drive trains handle completely different in Dirt Rally games. FWD is easiest, then 4WD, then RWD is the most difficult. FWD is like pulling a skateboard with a string to steer it. 4WD is like standing on the skateboard to steer it. RWD is like kicking the rear end of the skateboard to steer it. The further back the drive train is, the more your acceleration will influence how much "extra" steering you get.
