Hasn't it been confirmed that most of the sliders don't actually do anything? There are more and more reports of the game not giving ANY actual FFB regards surface detail at all, only basic weight alignment which is not proper FFB.
Either way, codies themselves have said they are "Investigating FFB Issues". I think most who think it's 'OK' at this point either don't have the dexterity to feel proper FFB or just don't understand what they should be feeling.
I don't think either DR1 or 2 are Sims, I think most people believe they are because they are the closest modern rally games to being Sims compared to everything else, there just isn't any competition. The only rally sim there has ever been is Rbr as far as I'm concerned.

I do have to agree
I think that because games are primarily designed for the console market; developers don't bother to go to the next level of detail that is need to even get a game close to something that you could call a sim
And wtf is a sim anyway?
This ffb debate totally illustrates the conundrum that developers have.
I like the ffb in DR1 better as it gives me more information about the road surface than DR2 does.
BUT DR2 physics are better then DR1 (noting tho that both suck on tarmac)
BUT is all that ffb detail in DR1 realistic? Heck I don't know as the closest thing I've come to driving a rally car is bush bashing as a kid in my old beat up Holden ute. But lets say rally cars don't give that fine detail ffb through their wheels. Lets assume that what DR2 delivers is actually realistic; nothing more, nothing less!
Trouble is when playing a game we are not sitting in a real car so I feel our ffb needs to give us more information to simulate what we may feel through the seat and gforces etc
So which is more sim like?
a) Delivering the real level of ffb or
b) delivering the ffb needed to feel things that are delivered in RL through other things (like the seat & gforces)
I want b)
Do you own dirt rally 1.0? if so just keep playing that until this goes on a nice sale! :)
I regret buying this, I'm not hating or being toxic or trolling, the cars do not feel or behave like cars in real life, especially rally cross where the motion, traction, cornering and stability of the cars is absolutely cartoonish and arcade feeling.
There is nothing wrong with dirt rally 1.0, if you tune your vehicles, settings, force feedback and input contols it's a rather stunning game in hindsight, and it runs really well on all levels of hardware and still looks quite wonderful, don't feel like you're missing out, and if you've got the cash to spare 2.0 is on sale on green man and a few other sites here and there,
I wouldn't say " DO NOT BUY THIS "
but I would say " KNOW WHAT YOU'RE BUYING. "
This isn't as hard core and as pure as Dirt rally 1.0 was to me.
I spent some time with it, the tire modeling, physics, grip characteristics and car behavior just do not match up to what cars do in real life.
Under acelleration, braking, corning, and coasting the input and feedback I get from the game do not line up with my experiences driving cars both on and off road, on the street and luckily enough at severlaltrack days and local rally's in the midwest ( michigan. )
I've done several local rally's in norther michigan in a 94 subaru, not highly modded, just coil overs, roll cage, gutted with big brakes, minor engine bolt ons and racing seats.
I've also been to dirt fish for a mutltiday course, driving those more modern cars was a blast,
I've spent some time on track at a local race track in north central Illinois on club days, in everything from early 90's camaros to 2018' GTR's ( I work for a high end dealership in chicago that sells everything from porsche to mercedes. )
My real world experience does not line up with what this game portrays both visually and physically through feed back,
the cars don't behave like they do in real life, they don't obey the properties of physics and handling characterstics cars of all nature * awd , fwd, rwd dsiplay.
and its dissapointing because dirt rally 1.0 seems to feel much better and realistic in how it portraits rally driving through a game.
This feels entirely more " arcade " style.
Sorry guys, not trying to upset anyone or be dramatic, just my honest thoughts as this is one of the very few games I have been waiting YEARS to play with anticipation and excitement,
I feel let down.
I think they can fix all of the issues, but I think some problems might arise with things like track deformation and how they model tires, the actual physics of handling need some development, a car under coast, even on a loose surface such as full gravel, something I've driven quite a lot in real life, still has a level of traction and feed back the game does not portrait, these cars in game just slide and float over everything where they should be hooking up, they don't slide at times when they should, under full lock steering or heavy braking, the way real cars do
and it just kills the experience for me,
it's nice to hear from someone else whose driven rally in real life, it just doesn't line up to realistic car behavior or characteristics, its very much an arcade game / interpretation of what a car should do,
this feels very much like dirt 5 more than dirt rally 2.0 which should be much more direct and pure, true to nature of realistic vehicle handling.
Maybe it just is something as simple as tire modeling, or the physics of " grip " and traction on the roads surfaces?
I hope so. because I would love to spend another 100's of hours at the wheel.
I can't play other racing games, I hate forza and games like that are total nonsense,
I started gaming in the early 90's when the first grand tourismo came out to give you guys an idea, man do I miss those days.
Dirt 1 made you use turn in, flick, braking and throttle control to turn, the game also had better modeling of tire physics and grip.
The only things I DIDNT like about dirt rally 1.0 was how light the car felt once you were airborne,
even in dirt rally 1.0 if you clipped the side of the stage, a fence, a wall , or snow bank the car responded realistically and rationally,
in dirty rally 2 if you hit anything it acts like a total arcade racing game.

If DR1 had fixed that problem it would have elevated the game (pun not intended ) to god status
DR1 really made you think about your approach to a corner.
The thing I really loved (and learnt) in DR1 is the art of weight transfer.
It's absolutely critical to understand that concept and fully master it to set your car up for a corner; otherwise that little flick of the handbrake did nothing; the front brakes would lock up and you'd just end up under steering off the road.
And on corner exit; the finessing of the throttle to control a slide is paramount and I think that was the skill that people didn't understand when they complain with things like "no amount of opposite lock stops the car from spinning round"
All this is important in DR2 as well but I'd need to spend a few more hours on the game to understand the new physics dynamics
When you go to timetrail and you change setup of the car you feel differences and as well the car changes handling like a real car....this shows that the physic engine works... as well gravity forces
are calculated really good...
Well this game got not the physics of rf2 or rf pro but overall a very good sim...
Physics is one thing....handling of a car depends on the setup and as well on driving assists if you got some on...you guys better read some setup guides..how to make setups for cars to be able to talk about things you dont know....the physics especially weight transfer is really good over all...
When i see people comparing this game to Dirt 4 i need to laugh more :DDD
Sure some FFB problems as well some small bugs are there....they will fix it soon im pretty sure..
The DLC politic is one point and as well the "online must be" for singleplayer is crap but quality and licenses needs to be payed ..
Where were all the beta testers and youtube freebie junkies when reporting ffb or lack of ? like really ? Eurogamer lol never do another review ! bloody joke that none of this was reported or fixed before release ? stutters oh wait another thing users have to fix on their own like really ? Really hoped Codemasters had learnt from dirt 4 mess/pile of crap , but with Dirt 4.5 sorry (Dirt -2.0) I guess does not matter how much lipstick ya put on a pig lol. So glad I refunded before stuck with another Dirt 4 paper weight on my hard drive.
Such a shame I had high hopes and yet here we are again
the problem is codemasters made arcade game for Dirt Rally series
and codemasters want to sell this bulls hit like a rally sim
problem about honesty
100% agree which is why I hope the fix the other aspects of the game.
Right now I wish they had this physics engine in the DR1 graphics engine
