Bringing modded liveries from the previous DiRT Rally?

Is it possible? On the returning cars, of course. Codemasters has always reused models between games, but sometimes they made some minor changes (mainly in the wheels). In some cases you could use DiRT 3 liveries on DiRT Rally cars.

So this new game is actually less moddable than its predecessor, despite Codemasters claiming they are more "mod-friendly" now. Hilarious.

This is no game-breaker for me, but in DiRT Rally I liked my cars having realistic liveries rather than the fictional teams of the game. You could replace every single livery with whatever custom skin you wanted and it didn't bother them. In this game you're only given very few slots for your own liveries, and the DLC cars are "protected". They still haven't learned anything from RBR's success. I hope modders find a way through this, as this might not be the best rally game ever, but once all the content is released it certainly will be one of the most varied.

Such basic skin can be created by a beginner
I also prefer original ones and the community is better in that point then CM.

Well, I just tried to use a livery designed for the previous game, and it doesn't seem to be compatible. A shame, that means livery creators will basically have to start from zero, even with returning cars. I hope the Alitalia Stratos doesn't take much to appear.

codemasters cannot support modded liveries of real cars, because of licensing. but they really like them

so, they have made it easy to put these liveries into the game, you just drop the pssg files into the right folders and bam it works.

They made it easier to install, sure, but they limited the ammount of possible custom liveries to be had with each car. To be honest, I would rather have more slots for custom liveries over ease of installation with fewer possibilities.

My main grief is that apparently the texture mapping of the DR 2.0 models is different than the mapping of the DR models despite being exactly the same (I'm talking about the returning cars, obviously new cars still don't have any liveries available for them) thus liveries from the previous game cannot be reutilized in this one, which is a huge bummer to me. Not all cars are appreciated in the same way by the community. I expect to see dozens and dozens of liveries for the 95 Impreza and the R5's, but odd cars like the Fulvia and Stratos (much more my thing) get so little love.

If you install the skins via the "folder solution" (no modified .nefs, only separate .pssg in according folder) so it works fine,

I know, alrady using some skins BUT... just look at Assetto Corsa then you know what it means fully moddable game and handling of custom skins. Comparing this
solution from AC and in DR, now in DR2.0 is also a joke

yes, the number of custom liveries being limited is annoying.

can't speak on texture mapping, but people have added liveries they did for Dirt 4 (can't speak on DR), as well as cars that are new to the series, and I have seen several for the Stratos, including my favourite Ailitalia one - though none for the Fulvia yet.

I have seen people convert entire cars from previous games too, including the Polo WRC from DR and the Hyundai i20 R5 from D4, though I highly doubt you could use these online and I don't know how well they work.

Yeah, I've seen these converts. The 2001 Impreza one isn't really necessary, that car has been showcased in pre-release footage and it's coming along with the 2007 Focus WRC in like a month, and will be the last pair of cars to be released in Season 1.

I seriously hope other cool rally cars from DR1 will come in Season 2, like the Lancia 037 and the 2001 Focus. Codies forum says a classic Porsche 911 SC/RS from Group B had its sounds recorded. Always wanted a classic 911 in a rally game.

Its sound is just too good to overlook. The silver Martini Racing livery also makes it gorgeous.
