Handbrake working as a button or axis?
Hi all. Does the handbrake actually work as an analog axis assuming you have it setup properly?

I currently have a Heusinkveld brand handbrake installed and working. It recognized it as an unknown device by default, but i then had to report it as a handbrake, and then had to assign the handbrake slot accordingly (I think it recognized it as "x-axis" when assigned so seems to be an axis). Then when I test it, it shows up as a button but as "x-axis" so which is it, button or x-axis?

The test tab shows axis testing for steering, throttle, brake, and clutch.. but all other inputs are just shown under the "button" row when pressed.... I wish they also added a test axis for handbrake? This is a rally game, the handbrake is also very important.

Does this question make sense? Does anybody have any clarification on how to make sure your handbrake is working as an axis by checking in the setup menu? I am testing it when driving and i think it is working as an axis but want to make sure? Thanks!

Not for me. I use a Fanatec Handbrake and it appears to be either full or nothing with a slight pull. I have no saturation or adjustments for it either. No analog adjustment. It's basically a button at this point. Very poorly done.

I have a TH8A and as it was detected as y-axis, I just assumed it was working as analog, but I just tested it and its working like a button too.

Correct. I've tried my Thrustmaster Sparco Handbrake, Fanatec Handbrake and a Janky custom one I made. All analog potentiometer based.

Nothing. Simply a button at this time.

Which, for Rally........... Makes it useless.

I've used the Handbrake only to spin completely backwards and off course with a slight pull.

I have a Thrustmaster TSSH set to handbrake and I THINK it's working analog in DR2. It shows up as a detected device in game. I haven't looked to see if there's a way to SEE if it's analog.

My TSSH and V1.5 both acts like a button. Play around with it more. I'd like to see what you're experiencing.

Follow Up: Ok, I do believe the Handbrake is working as an axis. I tested it out by driving straight at 80% throttle and first holding handbrake down about 15% for about 30 seconds and then a 2nd time holding the handbrake down about 100% again for about 30 seconds, and the car seems to be handling obviously different in the 2 situations. ( I did this in a Rallycross Time Trial session with one of the RX 600HP Supercars. I need to also test in Rally with various cars.)

So in summary handbrake seems to be working as an axis, but I need to follow up with more testing. I only had a few minutes just now.

Still at a minimum, the setup menu should add a test axis similar to the others (throttle/brake/clutch/steering) to confirm not working as a button and to calibrate, etc.

I have a Fanatec handbrake and it's working like a button for me.

That is a major reason I also believe that it isn't analog.

Alrigt, not sure this is still relevant, but this is happening because your handbrake has a button function for games that don´t support axis, to set the Axis/Slider as handbrake, all you have to do is activate the handbrake, half-way should do it, and then press the handbrake binding in input menu. and viola. this also works for all other games i´ve had the same issue with. hope it works for anybody having the same issue.

In settings, you can see percentages of all input for testing, handbrake included, so just test it there, see if it's only either 0% or 100%.
