I just got some odd bug where all audio cut out except ambient gravel noise. Then my speakers randomly popped. It was the game forsure. played some audio elsewhere fine with game still running. closed game, poppying stopped. really weird and so absurd it might damage someones speakers...

yeah just happened to me twice.... went back to main menu then was all fine. gonna try same race and conditions again to see if it's same location on track or timed issue.

Same issue for me, the sound cut off during gameplay. (I could only ear gravel).

Same problem here, sound cut out during a rally and moving through the menus and such would create a really nasty popping sound.

changed audio dynmaic range from high to low .... test it yourself and see if it fixes it

Temporary fix

When audio cuts out, alt and tab out of the game.

1 - Right click the speaker icon in the Windows tasktray
2 - Click Sounds, Playback
3 - Take note which device is default (green tick)
4 - Right click another audio device and "Set as Default Device", for example Spdif-out.
5 - Change the default audio back to how it was in step 3

Alt and tab back into the game, audio should be back to normal :steamhappy:

Yep, thanks Fluidz for giving others the steps to fix it. Hopefully CM can get it fixed properly soon.

It's a weird one. I wonder if it could be because I have USB headphones (actually a USB playback/mic device, which then connects wirelessly to bluetooth headphones). I wasn't actually using them at the time when the sound cut out, I was using desktop stereo speakers connected to on-board audio. But the USB device was plugged in (just not set as default).

I think I saw someone mention having a USB audio device on another thread about the sound cutting out.

Is anyone else here with the sound cutting out also using a USB sound device? And when the sound cuts out, is that device your default(active) one, or an alternate (non-active) one?

I was playing the game without the sound error at all for many hours until i did Australia, first stage where it cut out after second section. All other locations it was fine.

Still not fixed, by can be worked around by switching audio output back and forth like fluidz said.
