Did they get rid of the track generator?
I thought it was a cool concept in Dirt 4. I hope they eventually improve on it or something.

Yes, DR2 is back to regular stages like DR1 for now. I think they may revisit the generator concept later on, but apparently the locations in D4 took three times longer to build the ‘tiles’ for than a handcrafted stage and the hardware isn’t able to support a better generator tool at the moment.

There’s a really good interview with the lead of Dirt 4 somewhere about it (search Paul Coleman podcast on YouTube for more).

Whilst I hope they don’t give up on it completely, I am really glad to see handcrafted stages back - I thought the quality of the ones in DR1 were amazing and looking forward to seeing the new ones. A few more will be added in DLC this time too.

Also, there are more Rallycross tracks again, if that floats your boat.

More rallycross tracks is good to hear. I feel like they're kinda sparse in the Dirt series.

i think, both Rally locations and RX circuits can have stage(or circuit) generator inside a freeride concept for those who became champion at these disciplines -to give replay value apart from multiplayer&career-. The generated Rally locations can be VERY long, even passing WRC7 endurance stages, and the generated RX circuits can be long as the old Nurburgring or at least as long as The Circuit de la Sarthe. The generated stages and circuits can be saved for future use, or even be shared with community. With this way, RX machines can be used just like normal sports cars in the old NFS games albeit with a simulation physics and great graphics (even VR when it comes). The common dislike about RX championship is not cars themselves, but very short toy-like tracks. With the help of a possible stage generator, we can enjoy those cars in much much longer circuits with lap times bigger than 1:50.xxx

Codemasters should use the generator for rallycross and add only unique new and old rally stages ..everybody will be tired of rallycross after 3 months anyway but rally will be played for years.

I agree. It solves the big problem of knowing the stages and not needing your co-driver anymore. I think it was just unfortunately a bit premature. It really has the potential to be a game-changer though if done right. I hope they move away from the idea of 'tiles' since their landscape generation looked brilliant. If they could somehow procedurally generate a random windy road on their already brilliant landscapes and then add bumps, jumps, camber and other stuff to make the roads horrible and undrivable it would be perfect.

I agree the generator idea is great, but the execution fell flat. There should be at least 5x more tiles. Or not using tiles at all, but create some smarter system, which creates a truly random piece of land, then carves a road through it, scatters trees, buildings and foliage in some logical patterns
