Is dirt rally 2.0 worth it in comparison to dirt rally 1?
If i'm playing on an xbox controller is it worth buying this game full price?

I don't play with an xbox controller so aren't quite certain how much this figures in your question but I can say that if you like DR1 then I suggest you will like DR2 also. Just beware that it is a different game but with much of the same content but that never stopped me buying it at release via a cheap steam key.

As for buying it at full price, I don't do that ever and I am also happy to buy steam keys from 3rd party websites when it suits me.

If you are in some way desperate to play the game then only you know how much you will be prepared to pay. But yes, do get it sooner or later ;-)

Briefly - YES.
In detail:
- a bit pricey with all the DLCs
- some issues like other games
but
- better physics, graphics (except Finland), sound and handling than DR1
- a bit more difficult to drive, but closer to reality
- with full content lots and lots of stages
- good car selection
- Scotland is coming with McRae's cars and some challenges
- currently the only good rally sim

OP - I disagree on the 'only good Rally sim'

There is WRC 8 Via the Epic Games platform. It's coming to Steam late this year.

But for Steam only some like myself equally compare this to DR1.0 for many reasons. I choose pleasure and fun for my criteria.

My answer not in any way at all.

DR1 is far, far, far superior.

DR2 is basically a Dark Souls type rally game, it is made to be very difficult like the first game then in every way possible the devs have made it harder, and harder and harder, with weather that is so badly done it makes it almost impossible to see in some cars, awful pace notes, stupid damage models that give you draconian penalties for perhaps a tiny error like a small overshoot, inability to really do anything than survive.

Some of the locaitons are OK, but the newer ones are in the main very poor and again chosen to be as difficult as possible rather than fun.

They got so close they really did, but for me this game is a test of endurance, not driving ability, it is a chore, a grind and a rather poor effort to make a rally sim and a game that could have been fun.

But ask yourself if you are having fun in heavy rain in Wales, or even more pathetically Argentina (where it hardly ever rains on the rally) where you are literally driving in mud, on tyres that are 2 stages old, with cracks in your windscreen lights that are flickering and 6 miles to go of pretty much endless, dull, dreary hairpins driving through rocks on slime.

It is not a sim, or a game it is merely a chore, like washing up.

Then throw in the DLC model which has pretty much been universally criticised, and you have a game that is 5 or 6 out of 10, where I would give DR1 8.

They got close, the really did, but the devs got so carried away with making DR2 overly difficult they forgot to make it fun.

I would say yes, it is an updated version with some flaws but overall a clear evolution compared to Dirt 1.0. There are a couple of issues like always online, and other things that can be frustrating but, after spending over 500+ hours on Dirt Rally 1 and now around 120+ hours on Dirt Rally 2.0, Dirt Rally 2.0 offers a lot. I have yet to do the Rally Cross.

So far, completed monthly, weekly, daily challenges just to upgrade the cars, complete most of the career mode and the historical rally section.

So, if you like me were very hesitant to purchase Dirt Rally 2.0, I can say that, for me, this has been a very pleasant experience.

559 hours play time here OP.

Yes, lots of fun to be had and oh of course we all have our likes and dislikes but most of us just get on with the game instead of pedantically and endlessly splitting hairs and grumbling about everything that is possible to grumble about.

There are the players and there are those who find disappointment in every facet of everything they see.

Luckily they are few and far between and most here on the forums are the players.

Also, DR 2.0 have revamped physics engine, terrain details and graphics.
Raffi Feb 28, 2020 @ 2:18pm
Dirt Rally 2.0 is good, but does not show the driving behavior of the cars as realistically as Dirt Rally does. Whether the engine for the physics or the graphics are newer, Dirt Rally feels more realistic and also looks more realistic than Dirt Rally 2.0. With Dirt Rally 2.0 you have your center on the front axle, it's all about them. When you realize this, driving can be fun, but do you want it when it's just not realistic?
Everyone has to make this decision for themselves, but the question of whether Dirt Rally 2.0 is worth it compared to Dirt Rally can be answered with a clear no!

Absolutely yes (with a question mark over pure tarmac rally, which I really dislike in DR2.0). Love panzerplatte though..

NO!

On my other account I have over 2k hours in DR1 and over 1k hours in DR2. I also have WRC8 on Epic games.

All 3 games ARE HARD in their own way and for the best experience you will need a cockpit and wheel setup. My rig that I've spent the last 5 years on started off as a cheap wheel and pedal set for $300 and has evolved into a beast rig costing well in excess of $10k.

Do you need an expensive rig to enjoy the game ? Nope
Does a rig make it easier to achieve world record times ? Hands down YES
Does a rig get you close to real life racing ? Yes but without some of the real world g forces and motion sensation.
Can using a rig make you a better real life rally driver ? Yes and No , its good practice but there is so much more to real life rallying that no video game will ever capture.

If your funds permit I would buy all 3 games and give them all a go. But if funds are limited I would buy DR2 its a much more rounded game and very user friendly.

Just remember the game is meant to be hard, even more when you take off all assists and visual assists and use the cockpit view with 3 screens or VR. This is not Need for Speed :D get used to crashing and learning to drive each car.

If you have done any type of real world racing you won't find it hard just a little adjusting and at times a tad too EASY.
