I spent 3 days downloading Dirt Rally 2.0. (100gbs wtf) I was worried I'd be dissapointed. I am not.
All I'm saying is it was totally worth the wait. Been playing Dirt Rally 1.0 very casually for the last few months. Recently moved over to a PS3 style controller (it was lying around) and then there was a sale on rally 2.0. So now here I am. Just placed 3rd in the first rally series. The physics are a bit different from rally 1.0. The rwd car is a nightmare around corners, starting to get it but my word is it hard. Drove the Lancia in the initial rally just to get a feel for things. Its great. I don't think I'll be going back to rally 1.0. Anyone wondering why it took so long. My download is only 1mb/s and we had a power outage (they call it load shedding, its dumb).

I brought the game recently too. It is insanely big. I thought dirt rally was big for a barebones game. But ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, this game took my entire drive! The downloads speeds are based on your local connection

Imagine someone with slow internet downloading 100gb and he/she finds it bad and refunds it.. Bet it hurts, hehe.

I just bought the entire game too.. 97GB.. It was about 2 hours from start to finish to install and I just have basic cable internet.

They make you download ALL dlc (cars and maps)... just in case you play in a multiplayer lobby with a host who has the DLC.

I believe before any DLC came out, the game was something like 50-60 GB.

All that in 2 hours. Another one my heart goes out to... :steamfacepalm:

So what are 'basic cable speeds' so the rest of us scum can understand?

If i were in CM's shoes, i would have activated a "Demo Version" of the game when the download process reaches 9% or so. For the people with slow connection speeds, this "playable demo" can be used for gamers to acclimatize themselves with the game, changing settings, graphics, controller input calibrations, changing menu elements and gameplay elements for the rest of the download process. Hence, when downloading process is completed, gamer will not hustle in game menus and options for hours, instead, just begin to PLAY the game.

Or... just have a separate fully functioning playable demo as normal...

Gamers have been asking for these for many years now and rarely do we ever get them. cm won't do this because who would buy this with all the horrid crap if the'y played a demo.

Then, they wonder why some just get the pirated version(s) :steamfacepalm:

As far as I am concerned these schmukckfaced devs get all they deserve and to be honest while we all feel good about buying the official game this disgraceful state of affairs as demonstrated here stretches that loyalty to decency to breaking point.

i know (been playing PC games during 90's too :2lamp:) the importance of game demos and you are possibly right on your post, however, my above thinking is a solution for those who are forced to "spend 3+ days downloading Dirt Rally 2.0. (100gbs wtf)".

Since this game does not have a demo, my above thinking covers the ones who are only willing to try the game for "2 hours". You know, they can stop the download once demo part is available. If they like it, just press the "continue" button in downloads section.

and Everyone becomes happy.

Ah fully understand that now :steamhappy:

But I'm afraid you are missing one thing here my friend; cm are way too donald trump to come up with alternative options for those who struggle with the size and the time incurred.

I have an idea that might be fun for steam to adopt on behalf of cm and DR2.0. Anyone who has a high speed cable internet should be forced to download DR2.0 at 750KB a second. That'll stop the buggers bragging on the forums :steamhappy: :steammocking:

Haha. I like your solution. I think a playable demo sounds like a great idea actually. It can even expire if they're that worried. Give the user a month to evaluate and then make them download it again if they want to refresh for another month. The funny thing is I remember streaming being about instantly playable games. It would have been significantly faster for me to go to the shops and buy a disk. Anyway at least the game itself is awesome. I would be super bummed if I wasn't happy and wanted a refund. I do my research before I buy things.

Wouldn't a physical disc just point you to download it through Steam anyway?
