game not launching in vr.

have not played in a while, last time i did vr launched fine. every time i try for the last few weeks though there is nothing in the headset except steam vr grid. and on the monitor it says vr headset not worn. and none of the buttons on the wheel or keyboard seem to do anything. cant skip intro video etc.

no idea whats going on, restarting pc, steam vr nothing works. must have been an update or something that broke it since i last played which was a month or two back.

specs:

lenovo explorer wmr using steam vr mode
ryzen 3700x
asus x570 gaming wifi
16gb 3200 ram
rtx 2070 super
evga supernova 850 g3
windows 10 home x64 recent fresh install about 4 months ago
logitech g29 wheel, pedals and h shifter.
game installed on samsung 850 evo ssd

game not playable. i will try deleting the save game/ preferences folder and verifying dirt rally 2.0 game files. but im not expecting that to work.

any help would be great! :-)

all files successfully validated. and just a side note, all other vr or wheel/ racing games are working fine. just played dirt rally 1 and project cars 2 etc etc. its just dirt rally 2.0 with the issue. i will try deleting that folder, but if that doesnt work its down to the devs or the community to find a fix.

okay deleting that folder didnt work either. in fact game crashed and disappeared from desktop but was still active in task manager locking my mouse to an invisible window so i had to end task it.
also, sfc /scannow is fine for windows corruption check.

i will verify steam vr files. but i did that last week and it was fine..

just tried without vr and it works fine... but i cannot play racing games on a monitor anymore, especially rally games. im useless and its not fun. so please, if someone can help me that would be great, i wanted to get into this game on my annual leave. which as you might guess only happens once a year. codemasters? any ideas?

Sorry I don't know what your issue is, but I think I have seen another thread saying WMR is not working for them as well. As far as I know this issue is only for WMR as Oculus and Vive headsets are working OK for most. If you can't find your solution here try the CM forums.

Well, it works for me just fine with a WMR headset. Did you start steamvr before the game? I think since the 1.9 steamvr Update it has problems launching steamvr by itself if you just start the game from desktop.

i think i tried that already, but will definitely try again today, another thing i just realised it could maybe be. is i was having trouble with boneworks stuttering alot, and someone recommended turning on something called direct display or something in steam vr settings, so i will try turning that off and see if it helps.

you can always try deleting your "hardware_settings_config_vr" file . they/it sometimes gets corrupted. (The game creates a new one on startup)

Located Documents -> my games-> dirt rally 2.0 -> hardware settings.

yeah, i already tried deleting that whole folder. next i will try turning off the steam vr direct display setting.

did you fixed it? im about to buy the game, but i dont know if this is a good choice. Lenovo explorer user here! Played the Dirt 1, and vr experience was just ok. I love Assetto corsa immersion , but i want to try a rally game with good VR world! can u help me?

since nobody else seems to be encountering the problem you will probably be fine. maybe. i have not gotten around to doing further testing so cant say what the issue is right now. i though original dirt rally vr was very good. you have to have some settings quite low though. but now ive upgraded to rtx2070 sueper i can run original dirt rally at constant 90fps with ultra settings and from memory about 150-170% supersampling. i think its a beatiful game. dirt rally 2 in vr is ok, but i feel they need to improve it a bit. or i just have not found the right settings yet. tbh i am still on the fence if i prefer dirt rally 1 or dirt rally 2.0 more. dirt rally 1 is a bit more arcade and oversteery, which i like. but dirt rally 2.0 is more realistic, but feels slower and more difficult and harder to oversteer. a lot more understeer. its a great rally game though. has a lot of content. especially with the dlc i guess. (im not a fan of dlc on principle though).

anyway, if you are tempted, just buy it. give it a go, if its not for you refunding is easy as long as you have played less than 2 hours, and owned less than 2 weeks.
if you do buy it report back here if you get vr working. i suspect you will and its a localized issue with me. but dont take my word for it, its just a guess.

have tried again. still no go. its like the game thinks its running fine in vr. but nothing inside headset. and if i try taking headset off to use the monitor it saya headset not worn. also, not sure if the wheel is even responding. keyboard and mouse clicks certainly aint. i tried deleting the dirt rally 2.0 folder from inside my games, my documents. still nothing. also tried finding direct display option in steam vr. couldnt find it. also tried launching with fpsvr disabled and nothing. so now im convinced its dirt rally or steam vrs fault. nothing i can do but wait for a fix. not sure why this is happening to me and not others. so that suggests there is something. something on my end that could be the problem. but i dont know what. i guess maybe its time to do the latest feature update to windows 10, time to update to 1909. i have been putting it off because i dont trust windows updates, and its a non essential update. but its the last thing i can think of. i will update that and then run sfc /scannow to verify windows. after that, everything that it could possibly be has been verified to be functioning. so i just dont know. i guess i could try opting in to steam vr beta and see if that helps. or try resetting steam vr settings to default. but then i will lose all my per game settings, like supersampling etc. err.

Saw this developers response on a another thread, not sure if it relates to you or not, but I hope it helps.

WMR is compatible and works through SteamVR (as long as you've got the 'Windows Mixed Reality for SteamVR' software).

thanks for the response, i really do appreciate it. but i have been using vr for years, and all of my vr games except dirt rally 2.0 currently work. and that includes the original dirt rally running via revive. im not sure why DR2.0 isnt working. but i have verified game file for the game and for steam vr already. and i choose the steam vr option when launching the game. still no luck. and i know it works as i have had it working before. when the vr patch was first released it would launch in vr by defautl. then they added the options to pick either non vr or steam vr or oculus vr when luanching the game. picking steam vr worked fine. but now. after months of not playing it. no matter what i do i cant get it working. it launches like it thinks its working and steam vr says dirt rally 2.0 is running, but all i see in the headset is the steam vr grid pattern. no game.
thanks for the reply though. maybe i should try verifying files for "windows mixed reality for steamvr", since all other steam vr games work fine and i have not changed anything on my system i doubt it will help but i might as well give it a shot. :-)

update: windows mixed reality for steam vr - all files validated successfully. no luck there..
