Surface degradation settings

Can someone explain briefly to me how these work?
I usually play Freeplay mode, and you can choose between 'Authentic', 'Full' or 'Optimal' setting. It doesn't explain what it entails. I'm aiming for the most slippery conditions in Freeplay mode.

Authentic should be degredation based on your starting position, so if you start at last position, the surface is properly worn, if you start first, it's fresh...
Full should be full degredation and optimal no degredation.
But i also could be wrong ;)
And if you want the most slippery condition, play a wet spain stage with soft tires ;)

I've never come across that choice. Where is that setting?

There is also an off option so I think optimal gives you a stage in a "cleaned" status, aka some top runners went before you but the road is not yet dug up

Thanks! So the setting im looking for would be Full, then it would not matter which starting position i have. I'll give the wet spain race a go indeed with soft tyres ;)

I tested both extremes of road surface degradation briefly and there seem to be a little bit less grip during the first stage (Optimal), but the difference is minimal - 3 seconds on a 3 minut stage. If you want more slippery handling then you can simply run on hard tyres instead of softs. The difference in grip between tyre compounds is much more pronounced than the difference in grip between different stages of road degradation.

I am not quite sure about this:
But isn't it that the very first drivers on the road have a bit more slippy conditions then the drivers more in the middle of the field, because they have to drive on loose stuff and dust, which will be removed more to the middle of the field?

At the end of the field, it will be bumpier, and I guess also a bit slippier again because the surface might be kind off polished off.

In Spain on Tarmac, grip will probably increase because more and more rubber will be on the road?
