Modifying .xml file for SimShaker Wheels
I have ordered Realteus ForceFeel with SimShaker Wheels software. It could take a while until delivery.
In the meantime I have received and installed the software which claims to be compatible with DR 2.0.
The installation instructions read:
...
Dirt Rally 2.0
Close the game. Using Windows Notepad (or other appropriate editor) insert a string given below into motion_platform section of your
"C:\Users\%USERNAME%\Documents\My Games\DiRT Rally 2.0\hardwaresettings\hardware_settings_config.xml" file
to make Dirt Rally 2.0 sending telemetry data to SimShaker via UDP.

<udp enabled="true" extradata="3" ip="127.0.0.1" port="29373" delay="1" />

It should look about like this example.
<motion_platform>
<dbox enabled="true" />
<udp enabled="false" extradata="0" ip="127.0.0.1" port="20777" delay="1" />
<udp enabled="true" extradata="3" ip="127.0.0.1" port="29373" delay="1" />
<fanatec enabled="true" pedalVibrationScale="1.0" wheelVibrationScale="1.0" ledTrueForGearsFalseForSpeed="true" />
</motion_platform>
Now save the file and start the game. Make sure that the file extension is still .xml and NOT .xml.txt.
...
Here's the complete Guide: https://dreamsimteam.blogspot.com/p/simshaker-wheels-user-guide.html
I've never done any .xml modifications (older guy) so I am reluctant to do it on DR 2.0 game.

Do you have any suggestions for me so that I do not screw the game?
Should I make a backup of the original .xml and in what form?
Thanks

Open the file in notepad and open a new folder on desktop name it "original hardware" or something. Open new notepad file. Copy and paste hardware settings into it and save.

If you bugger up the xml mod you can copy and paste the original back into the hardware settings and save.

Thanks man!
I was also wondering if such modification are generally allowed by Steam and CodeMasters.

Many people have done so. So I would say yes to that.

That's reassuring. Thanks.

Great to hear from an actual Realteus user. I already started to wonder if I'll be the first and only. I hope the product will arrive in time for my birthday end November. That will be a present from my wife bur she doesn't know that yet (ha, ha):steamhappy:

Thanks for that CarDr - I hope I'd never have to use any of that.
Why can't they make it just plug-and-play? The older I am, the less I want to read and know about the computers, least about how to connect the peripherals. I want to chose the product, buy it, connect it and use it. Or is it too much to expect?
Anyway - thanks again :steamsad:

I was in the first 200 preorders and it took almost a year to get it. The company are very slow to respond but the product adds that little something that you miss when you forget to turn it on.

Update - So my Realteus arrived only 9 months after purchase (!)
The next problem was that the SimShaker software vendor had cancelled the activation keys provided by Realteus in a bundle with the equipment.
Meantime, I have found and installed an alternative software - SimHub with ShakeIt extension and now everything works fine, adding nicely to my DR 2.0 experience. In the end, it was worth the wait.
