Older wheel support?
I just bought the game because it was on sale and it has VR now. But my wheel is really old, like ten years old. Has anyone tried to use any of the older fanatec wheels like the CSR or Porsche wheels, I know they aren't on the supported list, but that doesn't always mean anything?

I mean I am saving up for a CSL Elite wheel base so eventually it won't matter. But it would be nice to be able to use my Porsche wheel for a while as I save.

All theory but : from the file "device defines" file in the dirt 2 directory ( Steam > Steamapps > common > Dirtrally 2.0 > input > Devices

Device configuration file.
This file is used to define device definitions and their usage in the game.

To add a new device add a device node with following attributes:
id - The hardware id for PC devices is essentially '{PID#VID#-0000-0000-0000-504944564944}' where PID# and VID# is replaced with the Product ID and Vender ID of the device.
You can get these ID's by looking in Devices & Printers, Properties on the required device, Hardware tab, USB Input Device, Properties. In 'Information' you should see VID_#### and PID_####.
Take the hex values proceeding the underscore and replace into the above sample.
e.g.
'Device USB\VID_045E&PID_028E&IG_00\8&3afa0edf&0&00 was configured.'
{028E045E-0000-0000-0000-504944564944}
name - The name of the device matching the name used in the action maps.
priority - The higher the priority the more likely the device is used in automatic selection mode as the steering device over other devices.
{
0 - reserved for not_supported devices
1-5, 99 - reserved for library defaults
6-98 - pads
100+ - wheels
}
version (Optional) - Hardware version of the device, used in conjunction with action map device versioning
type (Optional) - The type of device, if set to 'unknown' will use the type returned from the driver, otherwise it will overwrite with the selection.

thus for example in the same file :

<device id="{0E030EB7-0000-0000-0000-504944564944}" name="ftec_csl" priority="100" type="wheel" /> ..

You edit the file via notepad / notepad ++ ( Make a copy of the original just to be sure/ safe)
Hope you can work it out

Well, my 17 year old Logitech Momo Forcefeedback isn't on the supported list either, but works without any problems at all. No need to do anything like editing files either. So yes, they do support some old steering wheels.

Just curious Virtual.....have you noticed a change in FFB using your older wheel with DR2?..or is it the same feel as other games???

Thanks everyone for posting. My wheel was usable by default. I just had to map everything. gpk99, I feel like my wheel is showing its age. I have to crank the gain up to get strong ffb, like 150-200% gain to really feel anything.

well the reason I asked because there were many complaints about the current FFB on DR 2.0.....so i was wondering how an older wheel that apparently still works on this,felt force feedback wise....if it still feels likle it usually does.
I used to own a logi DFGT wheel...(well I still have it) but bought a new Logi G29...the DFGT isnt supported but it still works fne for this....but like you...t's getting old...and the G29 was on sale and I couldn't resist...lol....the G29 feels ok on this tho.

I was just playing DR1 the other day and I think there's a lot more FFB in that than DR2.

My Microsoft Sidewinder Force-Feedback Wheel works great, Dirt Rally / Dirt Rally 2 even recognize the model without a glitch...

The almost 20 yrs old force-feedback wheel and the game are really amazing.

Yo, how did you get it work? I have same set, but not working. Cant set it as primary device. Keyboard takes it.

Zimpapke, I didn't have that issue. I think you may need to find the general input settings and select your wheel as the primary device.
