Argentina in VR is jarring
I'm pretty much immune to VR sickness, but Argentina is close to being the most uncomfortable I've been in VR. And it shines a light on a shared problem with DiRT Rally. Your view/camera is welded to the car. There's no inertia between you and the car like there would be in real life.

It was moddable in DiRT Rally, but I've found nothing of the sort in DiRT Rally 2. No camera.xml to edit. I've seen others mention a "horizon lock" VR comfort setting, but looks like no such option exists in DR2.

The problem with adding inertia is that your in game head will move when your actually head doesn't. This would most definitely increase motion sickness. Imagine you slightly move your head to the right IRL as the game moves your head to the left because of inertia, how does the game continue to track your movements...does it conform to the new head position based on the inertia or does it go by where your head in real life is and does it snap to this location after the inertia movement has finished or should it or slowly move to it, and if so what speed would be natural?

If your frames are low it can significantly increase motion sickness. Have you tried changing your suspension settings to compensate for the jarring ride? this may be the best way to reduce motion sickness.

I do find the ride jarring but haven't gotten any motion sickness from it.

I haven't gotten sick from it either, but I find it very hard to keep tracking of what's what when the bumps get intense.

I suppose that's right for VR, it would be a fine balance, not uniform for all. The inertia mod I mentioned wasn't specifically meant for it. Horizon lock will sacrifice some of the experience for comfort.

So my idea would be a combo, horizon lock has a value that defines how much the camera is allowed to spring away from the horizon center, and how sharp/soft. And I'm only talking about pitch. I don't wish to introduce inertia to rotation.

I dont drive in VR, but i hate argentina, i am so bad there, and the bumps so hard sometimes i cant see the road properly. I guess it a matter of memorizing the track. At least i get no motionsickness as i am not in VR.

Have you tried adjusting camera shake (Game Settings > Preferences)? I have it set about half way and it is mainly the car that moves around me leaving my head in a level position.

Adjust your cars height to max. And softer springs.

I already have a few klicks of head shake, maybe i add one or two more, if i go to max it doesnt feel good, but i try add one or 2 two more klicks.

I did try that, but the lap time suffers it seems. I did some practice with default setup in fiat 131 on el rodeo, after like 5 or 10 runs, several at least, i add a lot more ride height and softer suspension(dampers and springs), ofcourse it made the car harder to control and it became more like a boat and steering less accurate. I could not reach the same speed i had before in the default setup. But maybe i did not give it enough runs.

Thats why i do not want to go super soft setup, in the end i gets me quiet mad when i drive argentina, everything is bouncing around i cant see crap, and i know if i go too soft i am actualy slower on top, leaves me with no good solution.

I do have a old trackIR lieing around somewhere, would that help maybe to stabilize the view? I did try my trackIR in DR1 but i could not get used to it, as i like that the view is fixed to the car, it make is easyer for me to react when the car want to go sideway. But maybe i just not used to driveing with trackIR. I feel like there is no real good solution to this. All other events are fine just argentine gets me mad while i drive it :P

No track IR won't help it at all. If you have a powerful wheel, it'll actually make it worse if your head starts moving around. I'd go for the lock to horizon options other have mentioned then.

Argentina is rough in VR. I love it though. I do very well there. Poland I suck at.

There is an "horizon Lock" VR Comfort Setting. In option menu, I think its graphics part, there is a tab for "VR Settings" . You got 5 or 6 items, including the one "Horizon lock" . That the only one I enabled, and enabled immediatly after my first test. Without this, the car is "moving" around me, as if I were not in the same spatial referential ! With this option, I stay seated in the driver seat :P

Same, having the car rotate while hitting a hard corner, while not moving made my head spin.

Also I have the option for crashes open for full view. Not that tunnel vision look. That gave me a headache.

I couldn't play Argentina in 2d with the way the view was fixed to the windscreen. Too jarring. I'd constantly lose focus when bouncing around. In VR however, with the view more fixed to the horizon, I find it miles better.

Same goes for Australia, stages with rough gravel, really hard to focus when the whole world is micro shaking all the time!.. .
Have tried the VR Horizon lock and also the camera shake setting, but nothing helps.. .
CM can you please make the camera shake option make a diffarance, I see nothing change from minimum to maximum in this setting..

I feel the same way when I ride my sportbike on bumpy roads. It's something people deal with IRL as well. If you really can't focus because of it maybe your car isn't setup properly for you, try adjusting your suspension settings.

For VR, the camera shake setting should probably be reversed. If you turn camera shake up all the way in VR, the most jarring bumps will make the car move around the camera rather than have the camera (your head) feel like it's welded to the car. It's technically true that the camera is shaking relative to the car, but in practice, no camera shake feels much more shaky.

Super bumpy stages like Argentina or any stage with maximum degradation are much more tolerable if camera shake is up all the way.

It's horrible even without VR. It's pretty much unplayable for me.
It's a rally game.....there's bumps on the track.. What did you expect?
