This, exactly. Dirt series are arcade games, Dirt Rally series are sims.
If you want to have it a bit easier I recommend looking in the game settings for the assistants options. If you turn a couple of them on you'll probably have an easier time if more arcade style gameplay is what you like.
For example the stewards were more relaxed on corner cutting in the rally cross parts. It wasnt as easy for you to smash all your front lights, forcing you to do night time courses in the pitch black. In Dirt Rally, it was quite difficult aswell to avoid getting disqualified on the french monte cristo course.
Dirt 4 was more fun aswell. A cool soundtrack, , bonus's for getting 4 fastest splits or getting less than 15 seconds worth of penalties ect, and the fact you could create your own team and have to negotiate with the higher grade engineers, as they wanted a bigger cut when you offered them a contract.
Looks like im gonna have to turn the AI difficulty down tho, if im gonna do decently well. I want a driving game where i have to really work hard and have full concentration, and have my best foot foward, if i wanna get first or second place. Not where i have to do all that just to get above 20th position.
Beating AI and coming in top positions is a different and somewhat unrelated thing. It could well be that the AI is harder, it could be that you are just better at driving in D4. I'm generally just amazed if I do better than 'really bad'.
If that higher level is too difficult u need to abandon that season to drop a level down or u can drop when placing in lowest 3 in season points. It could be difficult if car is missing upgrades so maybe continue to drive to unlock engine tunings and purchase them to see if level becomes easier.
For now avoid using H2 fwd, R2 and maybe Gr B 4wd + Gr B rwd cars in career because ai difficulty can be too hard even on clubman/professional levels with fully upgraded car.
H3 rwd and R5 class AI times should be better balanced. Maybe drive career with H1 fwd Mini or Fulvia(free repairs on Fulvia) until u can afford a H3 car(get BMW or Stratos) and then do H3 career until u can afford R5 car, have 200-300k or more credit over after purchase so u have money for repairs and upgrades. Also do daily, weekly events with cars u got to make money.
U can have hardcore damage on in career but don't put it on if u crash a lot and more modern cars can get very expensive to repair.
To win or place in top3 on elite/masters levels u need best car in the class with max engine tunings on it and very good stage knowledge.
Physics is also much more realistic and better implemented, what affects everything you do on the track, for good or for bad.
It just seems to me that inless i turn the AI considerably down, all the computer controlled cars drive like superman compared to me. I cant do any of the daily, weekly or monthly challanges, because i dont have the cars or locations it requires, plus i dont have an online subscription anyway.
The harder the AI the closer AI times will be to world record so if you want to beat the AI at higher difficulties you need to get better with both car and track.
Practice makes perfect.
