How to play local coop?
Control works both via keyboard+mouse and via gamepad, but somehow we can't join the second player via gamepad. Does local coop still work on 1 PC like that? Do you have to finish tutorials first?

I read a lot about people having this problem, then they seem to have gotten it to work, but don't write the solution. Isn't this something everybody should know?

When you click on "Add player" just nothing happens, even though gamepad and keyboard both can control the single character just fine.

Local coop should work like that and you can play together even in the tutorial levels. There is currently a known issue with local multiplayer and we are looking into it at the moment, so I hope we'll have a solution as soon as possible. There is one workaround you can try in the meantime, it has worked for some players so it's worth attempting before an official fix has been released.

Player 1 needs to move the character in the main menu to the right (player 2 should not touch any buttons at this point) using the controller or the keyboard, depending on what player 1 wants to use for playing. Only after this player 2 should press Start (if using a controller) or F3 (if using KB+mouse).

I'm very sorry about the inconvenience and the wait, thank you all for the reports and your patience!

Well, I have no idea what the problem could be.
I played the game through in local with my bro. I was on gamepad (steam controller).

I finished the tutorial via gamepad, though. Then, when the story started, I just pressed start on gamepad and it connected the second player.
So, gamepad was controlling player 2 after that.

When I accidentally disconnected (pressing wrong button), it just opened the main menu when start was pressed. But after a few seconds and running right to left, it made player 2 connect again.

Unbelievable how something THAT obvious for a game designed for several players can slip through QC, if there was any. Shame on developers, really! :(

We do have a QA department, but unfortunately this issue did not occur in our tests, despite the long testing period and having outside play testers as well. We're very sorry about the disappointment and the inconvenience this has caused to many players, and we are working hard to find a fix as soon as possible.

Thanks for response, Linda, but it is really hard to believe that in your test sessions there were no issues with local co-op with 2 local controllers, not once, and when the game was released suddenly a lot of people discovered this problem. I do understand that there is infinite amount of combinations of different hardware in the PC space, but come on! :)

Good to know that you are working to fix the problem so we all can enjoy the local co-op with our significant (or insignificant ;)) ones. Hope you'll release the patch fixing this problem soon!

It's quite possible that this is a rather recent issue. It is actually pretty complicated to get this right so that you follow all the rules of all console platforms, so the logic was changed many times. Of course, on consoles you don't have to worry about keyboard and mouse, so it is easy to miss bugs related to them (and when I said related, all I mean is that keyboard and mouse exist. Whether player touches them or not may be irrelevant).

Unfortunately, we are still pretty small business with only handful of people at QA. It would be great if we had page after page of test cases that were checked for each and every release candidate build, but that's not really possible. It is unfortunate that these things happen, but we'll try to fix it as soon as possible.

I know how hard is to develop games but every Trine game since 1 have problems with controllers. At this point maybe you have to put some common and usual basic rules about controls on the table so your dev team learn how to deal with more than one player and more than one input method.

Stupid bugs can always slip through in game development. Would be great if you let us know when you get it fixed. Have they managed to reproduce it?

Yes, reproduce has been successful. We're not sure what we'll do with the button yet as it isn't really needed on PC to add local players. Here's how you can add local players:
Player 1 needs to move the character in the main menu to the right (player 2 should not touch any buttons at this point) using the controller or the keyboard, depending on what player 1 wants to use for playing. Only after this player 2 should press Start (if using a controller) or F3 (if using KB+mouse). Note that you can also add players in levels, no need to do it in main menu.

Sorry that the join logic has been unclear, it is so familiar to us from previous games that this is something we probably overlooked. :)
