Direct3D Error: Unable to find suitable display mode for true color. Try 16 Bit color

I am getting this error everytime I try to run the game. Is there any solutions for this?

Same here. When i change to 16 bit colour in the configuration it says try 32 bit and vice versa, pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥ if you ask me.

Just found a way around it (sort of) Start the game then click on the configuration choice, click on the available renders box and select "OpenGL" then un tick the full screen mode. Now you can start the game but it will take up approx 90% of the screen rather than full screen, but atleast you can play it

If you cannot see the inventory and health section of the screen lower the resolution, it makes the screen smaller (unfortunately) but it allows you to get info, health and inventory on the screen

The only "fix" I've found is by playing the game windowed. It's no problem for me, really. I can run it with native resolution and without any borders. If you go fullscreen, though... this error happens.

This works for me:

Open the hitman.ini
You can find it on C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Hitman Codename 47 if C: is your steam drive, if not replace c: with the correct drive or folder for steam games.

open hitman.ini and change to this: in the resolution line change the resolution :-) and at the end of the file add the word window ... save ... finished :-)

Changing the hitman.ini file to have Resolution *your_max_resolution* and 'Window' at the bottom of the file should work. It actually runs in full screen mode at max resolution perfectly for me. :)

I'm able to play it setting the screen resolution of Windows at the same resolution that I want to run the game, and it works.

Alright I've got it working on Windows 8 (x64) with multiple monitors connected (game displayed on the main monitor).

First, copy this to your hitman.ini file (replace everything else/make a backup):

Then run the configurator and make sure everyting is set like this:
Available renderes: OpenGL
Run Fullscreen checked V
Use Texture Compression unchecked
Resolution: 1280x1024 - 32bit (IMPORTANT, HIGHER WILL NOT WORK)
Enable Blood if you want.

!!!And the most important part!!!:
Go to the Codename 47 folder again, find the Hitman.exe and set it to run in Windows 98/ME compatibility mode (I also checked administrator, but probably doesn't matter)

Thanks for this thread! it should be stickied out. Got this game today because steam summer sales (that awesome hitman collection...) and I have it already running sweetly.
