- The main reason we are trying to play at 1080p is to take advantage of the widescreen resolution, but if we set the game to 720p for instance (also widescreen) the HUD will look bigger with a very small downgrade in visual quality because the game is old and has low-rez textures anyway.
- Now here's the catch. Because we have to play the game in windowed mode, if we set the game to play at 720p it will appear as a 720p window over our 1080p desktop, not fullscreen.
- What I do now is set my desktop resolution to 720p before launching the game and turning back to 1080p when I quit. It's a bit of a hassle but that way I can see the text at a reasonable size in the game and I really don't notice that big a difference in visual fidelity.
