the dragon could even be tameable aswell, perhaps even rideable. it could even help do forgework or something. other ai colonies could get them and it could start a story event where all the dragons have to duke it out or join forces to stop some cataclysmic event.
That is a small amount of the ideas I had after reading your suggestion, though many do have the dragons as dumb and destructive beasts. Perhaps once your village reaches a milestone ( excess wealth, tech level ) a dragon could come in and offer a trade deal for rare artifacts/ tech in exchange for gold or rare minerals. A special mission for you to go exploring to find something.
But I want there to be a threat to my colony, what’s the point of building a castle if there’s nothing that could knock it down . If dragons were in the game they could be peaceful and friendly and stay on their lairs surrounded by wealth and artifacts.( something similar to “dragon heart “ or parthonax from Skyrim )You travel to them exchange gifts and knowledge. Or you steal from them and then they come a knocking .
Don’t think dragons could be a playable race, they’d either be some giant , overpowered super being that could destroy everything or small lizard people like the tomek are ?
I’m beginning to ramble, but I really enjoy the game and think too much about what and where the game is heading, can’t wait for the new update.
Maybe Jag is thinking of D&D style Dragon Kin which would be around human sized? I have to agree that controlling your traditional massive dragon as a playable race would be tough to make work.
It could definitely be used as traders, mercenaries or bandits. But they could also be a powerful migrant that could join your village ( I hope that multi species colonies will be a thing at some stage ) , the pros could be its strength for fighting / forging items and magic use for fighting/ making magic items. Negatives could be it needs a lot of meat or it will start eating tamed animals or other colonists or maybe a dependency on arcane dust/ something magic ( like a drug addict ). You’d have to seriously slow or even remove there ability to breed for reasons mentioned above .
Maybe they could be a playable faction as something similar to the ancients ( limited number of dragon kin with large number of thralls doing the peasant work, perhaps followers of a dragon cult …. ) but would need a different/ unique playstyle.
They could have certain milestones ( extremely difficult milestones. ) they need to reach constantly, offerings/ sacrifices to be made which your thralls would demand of you or else. Dragon hunters could show up periodically and be extremely tough to beat. As long as there’s A negative to playing them they could then be op as description suggests.
I’m rambling again :)
Good thinking. This is actually the intention for the final version of the Ancients. Hard to obtain, but pretty powerful.
They could worship the dragon as a god or deity, instead of goblins it could be a “multi species colony start “ where any believers of any race may join . This could cause other npc factions to make a pilgrimage to your colony or assassins come to take you out.
Rather, when mod support comes out, and maybe when those big ai creatures are also released (to set the basic structure of something big), I could absolutely see a playable dragon race as a mod.
