Anyway you can get health upgrades in the Misc upgrades screen but that's about it.
If you're having trouble on the Tutorial, here's my advice for the main combat parts
- In the chemist room use the shotgun to kill the gangsters, use the wall as cover so the two don't shoot at you at once, focus on making bodyshots, make sure to ditch the shotgun since you cannot carry it through the next room
- In the room after the toilet with the guy you take hostage, use the wall again to take on one gangster at a time (slicing the pie), focus on headshots
- In the Sniper deck, there is one gangster on the ground, one on the roof of JC's office and one on the ferris wheel
- In the pimp room, use a bomb on the winch (you get a prompt to place it) to drop the chandelier, then shoot the pimp from above, focus on bodyshots, you can choose whether or not to shoot the hooker but it won't matter
Otherwise avoid combat, look for routes on the sides or lone guards/watchers you can knockout and hide for easy disguises, here are your two non-lethal knockout methods:
- Sedative syringe, poison food or drink or stab from behind, to poison have the crosshair over what you want to poison and if you can it will go red, be warned that it is treated the same as if you had a gun out
- Approach from behind with gun in hand, wait for Take Hostage prompt to appear on E, take hostage then knock out (or drag to a location then knockout), only counts as a witness if target is facing a mirror
If you're trying to knockout or eliminate someone, crouch when you sneak behind them since the NPCs in this game have good enough hearing to detect you from behind if you walk. Be careful with bloody eliminations as NPCs can notice and follow blood trails.
You are supposed to restart missions. You explore the mission, learn patterns, and then you'll gradually form a route in your mind on how to approach it the next time, so once you restart it goes way smoother. I'm currently playing the game for the first time in almost 20 years and I've been using restarts and saves.
Let me tell you that I was able to Silent Assassin every mission on first completion up until the end, without checking online guides. Note that first completion doesn't mean first attempt. Some missions took me a long time to figure out. The game is designed just like that, like a puzzle, where your timing and positioning matters to find the solutions. It's not so much about doing it as perfect as possible on your first attempt. And because of that playstyle, you really won't struggle with health at all. There's painkillers that you can upgrade on your misc. equiment after you unlock them, but I never found any use to them, so I just saved my money.
(I just love the bell curve)
