There is only 3 save slots on rookie difficulty.

I recently decided to play this game for the first time. I'm obviously starting out on rookie difficulty, which is supposed to give you unlimited saves. However, there is only 3 save slots. Am I misinterpreting this as meaning you can save as many times as you want in more than 3 save slots without having to overwrite some of the saves eventually? Or does it mean that you can save an unlimited amount of times, but you only have 3 slots, meaning you will have to keep overwriting old saves to create new ones?

Didn't play this game for long time, as I can remember .....
Experience players play with only one slot (can rewrite)
The pros/Crazy players play with no save.
