No, no - a million times, NO.

I am a Hitman fan since 2000. I still have the "Platinum" game-disc of Hitman: Codename 47.

That game sent a shock-wave through the industry on release, despite it's flaws.

It was sickening and taboo. You felt somewhat despicable playing it and that was it's beauty.

SA was a good follow-up, an evident "spy-thriller" twist but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ AI with 0 rationality.

Contracts returned to the extremely atmospheric, sick and twisted nature of the original in a brilliant fashion. It was a very faithful adaptation with polished new mechanics.

NOW, I AM NOT SAYING BLOOD MONEY IS A BAD GAME.

It's mechanics and gameplay are OK. But if you are 100% honest with yourself - and, above all, you KNOW in your heart what the essence of Hitman really is, you have to accept the fact that Blood Money is NOT THE BEST *HITMAN* GAME.

Hollywood-y cutscenes, unatmospheric music compared to previous ones (I love Jesper, but this wasn't his best work), lack of tensions and immersion no matter difficulty, poor gunplay feel, and unremarkable, cliche ending put this game on the BOTTOM. Dare I say, below Absolution for me.

A vast majority actually think Blood Money is the "magnum opus" of the Hitman franchise. They are all dead wrong. These people never played Codename 47 to completion, or merely dabbled in it and then uninstalled because it was "hard and buggy".

But as a TRUE Hitman fan, I can install C47 or Contracts again and again, soak in the atmosphere and get immersed in the role, and really feel that I am this psychopath - an antikiller, a heartless victim-turned-stalker turning the tables on my enemies in a REALLY personal manner.

HITMAN: CONTRACTS IS THE DEFINITIVE HITMAN EXPERIENCE.

Well. Hitman Blood Money is being given away for free with games with gold on Xbox next month. I am looking forward to playing it for the first time because of all the outstanding reviews and it being called the Definitive Hitman game.

I do have Hitman Codename 47 and Hitman Contracts on steam. Is it recommended to play those first before Blood Money?

In my opinion, story means **NOTHING** for hitman games, it's all about gameplay. All you need to know is that 47 is a bald, badass hitman!

Finally was able to trade for a steam copy of Silent Assassin which almost completes my classic Hitman collection. I only need to wait for Xbox games with gold to giveaway Blood Money in a week and a half to have everything in the original series. I will try to play them in order.

Hitman SA with the mechanics of either contracts or blood money would be the best hitman. Still my personal favorite though.

For the record Codename 47 sucked ass. The controls were horrid and stiff, the levels felt so linear and the AI was completely ♥♥♥♥. If Silent Assassin or any of the sequels had been like that one I would've sworn off Hitman forever. Silent Assassin was the first good Hitman and they only got better until Absolution, which I don't think was a bad game as a whole, just a bad Hitman game. Fortunately HITMAN brought it back. Still not perfect, but brought it back.

I tried Contracts due to the story interests me but it is clunky and primitive where doing stealth based stuff ends up being hard, and Blood Money considerably improved against Contracts. Absolution does improve a lot but we don't speak of a linear, mobile-esque game disguised as a "Hitman" game.
HITMAN and HITMAN 2 (the new ones) require beefy PC which i didn't have now so, no, no comment at this time.
