Try facing different directions. Those elevators were hard to operate.:steamsad

Are you in the casino stage? In the casino stage, you can only go to the floor if you have the keycard. So if you have nothing, then you can only close/open door.

Hold the 'E' button or what ever button you have assigned for opening elevator doors. After that, you can scroll down a list of different places the elevator can take you to. Hope this helps.

Right now, I'm having the exact same problem as the OP, and none of the advice in this thread actually works.

The only option that appears while I'm in the elevator is to climb the hatch, open the door, or close the door.

I have the keycard to my own floor, but that doesn't give me any additional options.

How, exactly, are you supposed to tell the game to make your character operate the elevator? I need a solution that will actually work, please.

EDIT: I just found the solution.

The confusion was because the receptionist says that she gives you the keycard, yet she doesn't actually give you the keycard. So this is a problem of the game failing to communicate properly.

Despite her saying she gave you the keycard, you have to manually pick up the keycard off of the counter, and only after that do the elevators become operational.

I'm sure this is what was causing the OP's problem, and it was also causing my problem, it will also cause many other players problems. But when they find this thread via google like I did, then this post will solve their problem for them.

But really, the devs should patch this fubar of their own communication by having the keycard automatically go into your inventory when you talk to the receptionist, which is exactly what the game falsely implies has happened, and hence why this problem causes confusion and halts players' ability to progress in the game, as a result of having given them the misleading impression that they have the keycard, when they actually don't.
