Polution
The mechanic is so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ annoying, its just tedious, make a way to take care of this, or greatly increase the circle of the maintenance depot. If you haven't built the advanced structures yet save your input because you don't know what I'm talking about. like the sauna pollutes everything for some reason, ranches as well which makes no sense, it takes forever for them to decontaminate then as soon as they do half a day later its contaminated again, its just annoying more than its crippling to the colony.

You do know that you can already increase the circle of the maintenance depot.

I agree with "Sufferage".
For me it's not only annoying it makes me angry every time I reach that level of the game, 'cause I don't see the reason those buildings are getting polluted.
It can't be for my opinion not sooo difficult to fix that with a "Hotfix" now, before the next greater update.
Beside that: it's a fantastic game and I've almost 600hrs playtime! Thanx! :steamsad:

Heya!

Thanks for the post and the comments! I have forwarded this feedback to the rest of the team - while I can't give any promises or guarantees that it will change, I can tell you that we take all feedback into consideration when making decisions. Not sure if we would want to remove this functionality altogether, but we can for example look at the balance and rate of pollution on buildings!

Thanks again and of course, thanks for playing!

Even if you think of "pollution" as a generic catchall term for trash and waste (as well as actual pollution) in the game, some buildings that are currently causing pollution, just don't make any sense.

For instance, a properly built and maintained outhouse or bath, should not pollute (except for a bad smell) or need to have "waste" removed from it.

The waste decomposes in the septic tank and then empties out, under ground, through a leach field.

As long as you don't go over its capacity, put something in it that wont decompose or add poisons that kill the tank's biological system, there is no waste or need to "clean it out".

Maybe you could just add a tech/upgrade to remove the pollution from these two buildings (to signify building a septic tank).

@ZiffyHead: I totally agree! Same with the saunas!

Research toilets/flushing and they will no longer cause pollution after you upgrade them.

In real life septic tanks do need to be emptied every so often, I think every 10 to 15 years.
The water drains out to the field, but all the other waste (♥♥♥♥, toilette paper and such) do build up and eventually fill the tank. Decomposition doesn't occur fast enough to prevent it. I don't know if there are chemicals in use on to break down the solids now, I haven't been around a place using on since I enlisted and left home.

Actually, it does make sense that ranches make pollution. animals eat, and in turn make well.. we all know the process.. this is in fact an environmental bio-pollution and must be cleaned on a regular basis... same with the first sauna, dirty people washing themselves make some pretty nasty wastewater, again, this is bio-pollution and must be cleaned. Inccedentally, when you DO upgrade the sauna to the Steam Sauna, the pollution now goes away, presumably the upgrade now has piping to remove the waste water, much like the upgraded toilet from outhouse does.

A septic leach field doesn't keep up with a household of 4, much less an entire colony of people. It will need pumped out every 5 years or so, and that's for a small household. Outhouses are literally just holes in the ground. Even well maintained and advanced sanitation systems require treatment of some sort. The more people and animals you have, the more waste is generated. We're not forced to move the outhouse to a new hole in the game because it's covered by the pollution mechanic that already has a counter/fix for it.

I've just looked at it like the difference of being lazy about cleaning or not. A maintenance depot is like a waste treatment center in regards to pollution or waste generated by saunas and ranches.

I do feel that crop fields should have a different mechanic that requires them to go fallow every X number of days, but the pollution mechanic works for that and I suspect players would be frustrated by being forced to rotate fields.

edit:

And as pointed out by others, there are upgrades to certain buildings that reduce or remove the pollution entirely.

Kind of defeats the purpose of having a plumbing system when everything just gets "polluted" anyway.

And apparently cooked meals also somehow cause "pollution" or radiation damage or something, which is absolute ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
mysteriasdrassa Mar 9, 2022 @ 6:31am
actually, if you look at each buildings pop-up, its contamination not pollution... everything gets contaminated.. even in real life... INCLUDING places that prepare FOOD.. and people spread contamination from place to place... if you knew how germ infested today's money is, you might not want to keep handling it :D Plumbing helps to greatly slow down the contamination, but it can never truly eliminate it, not even in the real world. Now its time to bring in the workers with a Maintenance Depot.. these workers do not JUST fix things, they also clean contamination so you don't have to keep doing it yourself... TBH, I'd say the devs got it pretty spot on when they thought through the entire thing.. pretty realistic if you ask me
