Steam Deck Support A Lie -- Controls Don't Work
So this is listed as verified by Valve on its page and I installed it for a quick little bite-sized game on the go. But I started it up and it looks like it just flat out doesn't work. The opening tutorial level tells me to delete some stuff by highlighting it with the left stick and hitting 'B' and that works, but the next step is to select materials with the d-pad and that just flat out doesn't work. Even the start button doesn't appear to work and I have to force-close it through the SteamOS button.

Is there a known fix? Googling this seems like it's an old problem that sometimes it just doesn't work with controllers but considering this is an entire system that was VERIFIED it's bizarre that this problem persists.

I had the same problem. It took me a while, but I did figure out a fix.

The issue is actually not with the Steamdeck. The issue is a very old bug on Linux that was never fixed. See here for details:

In other words, the Linux version has never worked for this game with a controller :-(

But there is a solution for the Steamdeck! See, by default the native Linux version is downloaded on the Steamdeck, but you can tell it to use the Windows version using ProtonDB instead and that should work!

To do this:
1. On the Steam Deck, press Start on the game in your library
2. Select Properties
3. Click Compatibility in the side panel
4. Enable the checkbox that says "Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool"
5. Choose a Proton version from the dropdown list (I used "Proton Experimental")
6. Restart the game and it should work!

That worked for me. Let me know if it works for you guys!

If anyone knows how to contact the devs, it would be great if they were aware of the issue.

Thank you very much for the information, I was unable to find anything via Google and gave up after about an hour of fruitless searching. I'll try it out later and see if it works for me. Thank you kindly!

Somebody uploaded a control set, and it works great. Before you start the game, click the 'controls' icon on the game page, change the layout to the Steam Deck layout found in the 'community layout' section.

Using the touch screen also works for the bugged controls

Please, everybody go to "properties > feedback" and select "no" in the drop down menu, then the devs might realize the issue.

Oh! And thanks for the info on how to fix, of course!

(Not to be taken too seriously:) Another case of showing, that Linux is superior over Windows when it comes to gaming! 😜

EDIT: The Linux version also has other problems... it looks like it never was updated. I ran it in Proton and it was like: "Wow? What happened? Vehicles driving by and wall plates are moving around in the menu screen?!
Glad, I ran into the controller bug, otherwise I may have missed half of the games content...

Switching to proton worked for me.

Thanks. For now I tested 3 perfectly compatible game and two of them (including this one) wasn't working. So that's means steam is selling "a lots of perfectly compatible game" while the true number is probably a lots lower ...

Issue still exists and this worked for me. Thanks!

Switching to Proton is indeed the solution. Thanks!

I am guessing they haven't bothered to update the Linux version, which is the one installed by default on the Steamdeck. Switching to Proton seems to force emulation of the Windows version, which has been updated and which is perfectly Steamdeck compatible.

When asked, I also said that the Steamdeck compatibility is a lie. Even though it is probably a matter of switching one option in the Steam backend for Valve to fix this.

Thank you. Proton worked for me. I almost deleted the game.

I can confirm that Steam Deck verified is a lie for native Steam Deck / Linux port. Only the thumb analog sticks work, all other controls do nothing in this game. Because the D-pad does not work in game, cannot proceed through the tutorial after destroying the existing broken bridge.
