Purpose of budget

What's the purpose of budget? I can't see anything that can stop me from spending like $200k or whatever i need to pass every level.

The only thing that makes any sense to me is if it's there so you can challenge yourself to use less next time. How much we spend does not seem to have any impact on the game.

I did manage to use all available components one time, so there is a limit on how many pieces you have to build with. I don't think it had any relation to budget amount.

I think it limits how much you can build in each level, just like in the other Bridge Constructor games.
