New Visual Update DRM

Has the DRM been removed to allow using ModUnlockerBasic or do we still need to use the old beta files from before the last updates to allow for modding? also, is there a way to mod the core .pak file like uncompress it, replace the core files with modded files and them re-compress it back into a working .pak file again? thanks

@Huslaa what do i need in order to repack the .pak files? i have UModel to unpack them but what do i need to repack them?

When i try to open UnrealPak.exe it opens a dialogue box and then immediately closes before i can do anything....i have UnrealEngine 4.21 installed, do i need to have the Engine running in order to use UnrealPak?

@VikingDork no im not, i have modded games before but DDS seems to be particularly a pain to mod and get it to work correctly..... sometimes i get the DRM error from ModUnlocker saying it can't run due to steam DRM and other times i can uninstall and re-install the files and it works fine....but im trying to find a middle solution incase the ModUnlocker becomes and issue as i am more in tune with modding files and replacing them over the original files and then running the game with the modded files.....but .pak files are not so easy to just modify a single file or few files and replace them and go on playing.....so im trying to learn the system of unpacking/repacking and getting it correct so the game runs as it should just with my modded files inplace of the original junk lol

Well, that Discord is a great place to discuss and even share the mods you publish. Most of his are already on Nexus and other's as well. I am not a modder, sadly, but you can for sure trouble shoot there. I think you will have much quicker and accurate responses on the Discord. Just click on his profile here. The link is in his bio. Mods here recognize that Discord server as a legit place for this game and the 2nd game.

For the record, I have no affiliation other than being a member in the server. I struggled like a mofo until I finally just sucked it up and joined lol.

@VikingDork .... i went to his profile and joined the Discord....i'll dig through the files or see about speaking with him directly when he has free time.....im also fairly good at figuring things out but like i said before, im old school when it comes to modding/patching games like notepad and hex editor old lol....but i'll figure this out and maybe learn some new tricks too lol .... thanks for the responses and i'll keep a look out on the discord :) cheers

Yeah, any time I have an issue with the code, that's where I ask and I get a pretty quick reply. These forums are kinda only looked at by a select few. :D

@Huslaa i'm still getting the DRM error for ModUnlocker and i uninstalled and reinstalled all files and reinstalled ModUnlockerBasic and it's still saying the steam DRM error and shutting down or only playing without mods :/ i think DDS just hates me lol

are you using the before visual update beta?
thats the only way i can really suggest to play with mods you are free to find alternative methods on your own but feel free to hmu on the modding discord and i can explain why your having trouble using unreal pak (or short answer its a program meant to run in unreal engine, or standalone in a cmd/console window [ your not giving it all the info it needs to operate])

@Huslaa ah ok, yeah like i said im old school, im learning about the .pak files and modding with the new tools but this is the first game i have needed or wanted to mod in a long time.....i'll get with you on discord soon and get your input....thanks for the help :) cheers ..... also about the DRM, i am using the before visual update files now but i had it working on the new update files about 2-3 weeks ago and then all of a sudden i started getting the DRM error again so i went back to the older version files for now.....that's why i asked about the .pak files so i can just do away with the ModUnlocker issues and just add mods my way without external interference lol

so about it working then not..when the visual update was first added it had drm.. .then a update patch removed it..then a second update/patch re added it so you felll right in between :D
