A similar game MTG Shandalar vs nowhere Prophet
Playing this game it reminds me of a game that came out long ago called Shandalar which came out decades ago to this game. They share alot of things in common expect for nowhere prophet being FTL style and Shandalar being rpgish.I wanted to show this comprison cause thier is just one thing that Shandalar did well which beings everything down in nowhere prophet and that is the deckbuilding or better yet the lack there of.

Shandalar starts off similar to this game only you have alot more starting choices to pick from. They are still however like this game generic and don't really have anything special with them. However the game gave you options to expand your starter deck with fights that always rewarded you with at least one card from the enemies deck. You aren't guaranteed that when fighting most normal enemies in this game.I mean why not throw cards at the player? Especially with the death mechanic this game has.

Shandalar also has towns and dungeons(which work overall similarly to special events in this game)The towns worked similarly to this game too though it was alot more easier to get quest that would reward you specific cards in that game.I'm not sure why nowhere prophet doesn't start you in a town so you could atleast pick some units to make your deck less generic.

The main state however to me that bogs this games deckbuilding down is the FTL hurry up mechanic. You want us to build a deck but you also want us to not explore all of the map to build up said deck. How does that makes sense? When some bosses straight up can't be beaten if you are just still using the starter decks. Shandalar has a similar mechanic but you could always extend the timer in that game. Not here you could at most give us a chance of a desperation event that gives you some food and hope to finish the map.

That's about what I can think off at the moment. This game really shines when you get lucky and get enough cards to start to make a good deck. The problem is you need LUCK to do that at all.10+ runs now and only one of those runs felt like I was truly having fun from actually being about to make a good deck.

But there's very little similiarities between this an MTG Shandalar.

Shandalar is pretty much a videogame version of magic but with the elements of a open-world sandbox RPG.

Nowhere prophet is basically FTL with elements of modern mana-based card videogames and squad tactics combat with cards actually representing your units which can get injured and die.
