'damage is disabled' what are you talking about?
I've killed him and hes killed me,
I've also tried to postpone the fight and just keep fighting him and avoiding his attacks without trying to kill him.

nothing is happening, just me fighting this guy and taking damage..

that sounds like a bug, damage should indeed be disabled. I'll add it to the list to fix for a next patch
as for the rest, yes it's just training :)
