Successor of the ribcage
Its been a few years and this is still the worst boss design I have ever seen.

I wouldn't say its the worst... I think they made it crazy easy since it was so early into the game. It tries to be a unique caster but it is just too vulnerable and simple, kinda like that sorry Crystal Sage in DS3.
Maybe you haven't played the souls series, but bed of chaos beats out successor of the ribcage by a very wide margin

Been playing Souls games since day one Demon's Souls on PS3 lol.
And I will disagree. Bed of Chaos shouldn't even be considered a boss, but it takes all of three seconds. Its a boring design for sure.
But successor is... wtf were they smoking though??
Room wide AoE with no cohesion whatsoever with its pattern, just a bunch of random ♥♥♥♥ going on and hope you manage to reach him. Especially phase 2.
Its not 'hard' per say, its just stupid imo.

no the sorcerer class :sunekosuri: its a joke

Oh, yeah Sorcerer class is... meh AF in DkS1.
I rather just go Pyro at this point. Pyro is just objectively better anyways. At least for PVE.

ruins the joke tho because everyone says sorcerer is easy mode

Sorceries are a joke overall in DkS1 sadly. So slow and so.. uninspired.

This patch is amazing! I get no more stutters even with the game fully modded! Finally this is in a great state!

I have beat ds1 (ng+), ds3 (ng++), bb (ng++), sekrio (ng+++), DeS (ng), and code vein (ng+++). I know how to beat all of the bosses. The souls series as a whole has higher highs, but also lower lows. In the same way you can beat BoC without getting hit, if you know what you are doing, the same can be said about SotR. It would be a much fairer assessment of what is good design and what is bad once you are able to do both. The way you are describing SotR makes it seem like you don't "know" the fight. I'm sure you can beat it. But beating a boss and knowing a boss are not the same thing

This really isn't about that.

A boss that can INSTA kill you the second you enter the room with extremely questionable hitboxes on a complete room wide attack, isn't good game design.
A boss that can spam so many different magical attacks and have so much advantage right off the bat while you are on the move trying to get to him, isn't good design.

Quite a few times me and my friend entered the room and got instantly murdered by lines of fire going off everywhere.
But that isn't my biggest problem.
I was helping my friend today, and we have massive glitches.
SOme of his thunder attacks were suddenly actually invisible. His balls of fire going all around the stage, were also completely invisible and he teleported away, I tried to get to him but got killed by seemingly the plain air.

Frankly, this entire area is a massive waste of time and only designed to aggravate with bad design.

Navigating the area isn't bad per say, but needing to drop down in holes in the pathways just makes it so you look at every hole ever and try to figure out where to go. Everything looks the same everywhere, the 'puzzle' is boring, uninspired and just felt like the people taking care of the level design decided to take a break and some other guy went in to be the last resort.
The aggravation of this entire section isn't fun to me.

Also, what are you even talking about? Stop acting like people didn't have the right to talk about game design unless they can flawless a boss. This sounds elitist as all hell. This boss AND area is frankly not well design and its even more apparent when you look at the rest of the game in comparison.

The way you describe BoC means you are very good at the fight. If you can beat BoC in seconds, it means you're clowning on it. It was not an elitest statement. It is me asking you to acknowledge that you think BoC is boring because you are good at the game and as a consequence are biased on the struggles a normal player faces. SotR is cheap because you are not good and BoC is easy because you're damn good. Fun fact: did a DS run last week and I died to BoC more than every other boss (DLC included) combined. If you think that makes me bad, then feel free to judge me on that fact.

I've never had a problem of getting 1-shot immediately upon entry and I've beat SotR over 50 times (I do a lot of co-op). Did you get 1 shot before being able to input any actions, or did you enter and not dodge the first attack? Regardless, you definitely should not have been one-shot. It sounds like you didn't have any resistances. That's a mistake on your part. Resistance in CV is percentage based. 100 is full immunity. So every percent counts.

Why did you bring up the level design? I'm not going to defend it, but I thought we were talking about SotR.

Also, it's "per se". Not "per say"

Edit: I just noticed your part about the "open room". There are giant pillars lining both sides of the room. You aren't using them while you make your approach? The only attack you cannot hide behind that is hard to dodge is the laser.

I am not thinking that BoC is boring because I am good, sure I finished these games far too much. But its not what I meant by 'boring'. I meant its very design is boring. We are talking about a boss that is basically protected by a shell that does nothing else but break the ground on you. A boss that is pretty much infamous for its bad and boring design.
I don't think that someone dying to anything makes them bad either. Everyone has that one boss that is pure toxicity to them, or just a bad run and ♥♥♥♥ happens lol.

Its not me being one shotted per say, rather just the thing hitting me on entry and then getting stuck in its hitboxes multiple times.
But that isn't the point, the point is that no well designed boss should be allowed to snipe you so strongly from the far end of a giant hall and be able to do it room wide. Of course this boss can be beaten, that goes without saying. However just because its beatable, doesn't mean its well designed. I have beaten this game quite a few times, and no matter how many times I beat it, this boss is just cheap and badly designed to me.

You are starting to sound much more reasonable. I never claimed SotR to be a good boss. In fact, it is easily one of the least memorable. But to call it the worst design you've ever seen? That's a pretty bold statement, when there is a lot of garbage out there. I put fromsoft a step above any other development team in this genre, but it sometimes gives you some absolute garbage

It was probably a bad wording on my part honestly. I meant more to say one of the worst design in a souls-like. I completely agree that there are some really bad stuff out there. I really love Code Vein, there were a ton of amazing ideas in the game. Just the class customization alone was amazing. I love the Bayonette as a concept and in general the gameplay is so fluid that even Dark Souls games could take a few notes.
