Problems with Multiplayer

Beat this game on xbox and decided to get the game for my bf and I to enjoy on steam. Well, I can join his game just fine but when he tries to join my game, it says "failed to initiate multiplayer session."

We've tried what feels like everything at this point. Stripped ourselves of accessories, gear, skills, turning off auto replenish, adjusted fire wall settings, made sure our steam region was the same, etc. I did have an issue trying to get randoms to join but I guess something I tried work and I was able to get a person in, but not my bf.

Does anyone at all have any ideas what we could do? We are both in the same areas in game. I'm at my wits end. Thank you ;-;)~

Also, I will say that we are using the new steam family stuff. I don't know if this could affect anything but I thought I would throw it out there. My copy has the DLC on it; his is a standard copy of the game.

Maybe try both running steam as admin, I had to do that for my friend to join but it might be a different issue for you since at least you could connect one way. We couldn't connect at all.
