Please help, all my stars reset because I got a new pc.
I've been playing over and over until my 25th or something star/NG+ , but then my pc decided to die on me by black screening and making sounds like it was gonna explode, so I had no choice but to replace it. I do another NG+ but I end up realizing that I'm back to 1*
What???
What happened???
I feel like all I did was in vain and I'm absolutely in despair, can someone help me out or at the very least clarify what changed/happened here.

Sounds like you haven't synced your local files with the steam cloud ones in a while. What basically happened is that you're using your quite quite old steam stored save file (the last time you actually synced with steam cloud I mean) and that's the save you're on. Your old one is most likely gone by now.

But I'm fairly certain steam synced the cloud every time I would close the game, it would tell me if it wasn't synced because it usually warns me about it. I'm certain the cloud was saved correctly considering that the save file i loaded had 308 hours next to it still and the difficulty was still hard, but the number of stars on said save file just vanished.

Only the number of the stars? Could means that you accidently press the "lower the difficulty" upon getting to new game. if I'm not mistaken, the stars represent how high/how deep are you into NG+. The difficulty caps at +10 though, so it's not like it gets any harder past NG+10.

If not then it might just be a really specific bug that can happen when you have a save with too many stars/too deep into NG+. The dev don't really do much bug fixing even during the 1 year launch window. So there's that.
