The servers were not shut down. It is possible but there are few players. Only 701 people are playing right now. In order to match in this game, you need to be in the same region and open online matchmaking. I tried a lot while playing but I couldn't find anyone. It is best to find a certain group of friends or one person and play together from start to finish.

Definitely been playing but Spy's correct in that it's more difficult to find others to play with.
Don't give up, though. Hopefully the stars will align before you suffer through the Cathedral!
