If you are looking for Souls games, then Elden Ring and Bloodborne I would say is a good place to start.
Well, both I guess. I do know Souls like games, played Monster Hunter and Elden Ring. Its sad if there is nothing Anime Souls like as u called it.
I am currently playing Scarlet Nexus, but thats a bit different. Will hope that there will be more games like this in the future because they are fun.
Anyway, thanks for your answer!
Well, not actually my type of games (simply because I dont have any friends to play with haha ) But I see your point, fighting with your pals against bosses must be an interesting expirience and its possible in both games.
If I would ever become more sociable I would try this game. Thanks!
I am not a big fan of anime, so I don't play many games that look like that, so I can't recommend any either. However, If you are interested in more Souls likes, there are quite a few that are worth a look. So, I'll just list those I remember right now. Maybe you'll find something you don't know yet among them. I'll also mention whether you can customize you character, as that is kind of important to me.
There are the obvious ones, the From Software games: Demon's Souls, Dark Souls 1, 2, and 3, Bloodborne, Sekiro, and Elden Ring. If there is one of them left that you have not played yet, give it a shot.
(Custom character, except in Sekiro)
Lies of P has already been mentioned, and it is indeed an excellent game. Cant recommend it enough. Mechanically a bit of a mix between Sekiro and Bloodborne, with some unique stuff. Somewhat Victorian aesthetic, with mechanical puppets, and other monsters. You can recombine your weapon parts (blade and handle) to customize your playstyle.
(Fixed character)
Remnant 1 and 2, as mentioned, are Souls like with guns. Quite fun once you get used to it.
(Custom character)
Lords of the Fallen (2014) is not very good in my opinion, but some people like it.
(Fixed character)
Lords of the Fallen (2023 made by a different dev team) though, is pretty good, if it runs well. Still has some performance issues, and bugs, but is being updated often and quite fun to play. Has a loose connection lorewise with the older game of the same title, but you don't need to play that one to get into this one.
They should have just called it Lords of the Fallen 2 though, even if it is made by someone else.
(Custom character)
Nioh 1 and 2, have a Japanese aesthetic (not anime though). I particularly like the three stance combat system, which in combination with weapon type specific skill trees, gives the weapons a lot of variety and depth.
(Fixed character in 1 and custom in 2)
The Surge 1 and 2 are from the same devs as LotF(2014), but better. Scifi with exosuits, and powertools as weapons. Special feature: Dismember your enemies to collect equipment.
(Fixed character in 1 and custom in 2)
By your avatar I assume you already know Hellpoint, but I'll mention it anyways, in case someone else is looking for recommendations. Pretty nice Scifi Souls like, with transferable weapon upgrades.
(Fixed character)
I guess I should also mention Mortal Shell, though I can't say much about it as I have not played much of it.
(Fixed character)
Note: These are not in a particularly preferred order and they're a fairly loose recommendation you can just browse through for ideas that catch your interest.
The Ys series was pretty amazing. Here are some of the more popular entries in a considerable series:

Not precisely in this genre, but you may actually like it's incredible combat and solid but short story

Just came out and decent but it, again, depends on taste. This game, imo, has way too much padding (of which you can skip but the game is still a bit long-winded and not super interesting but still decent). Personally, I got bored after a point but you may not.

Perhaps you will like this and it may lead you onto more franchises, or at least the Final Fantasy VII verse that you might come to enjoy

You might like Genshin Impact. You also might not. Just something to consider...
Might be worth considering before dismissing. Great gameplay, tons of content, but eventually runs out. Is repetitive, though, so you have to actually like the basic loop. As a free player it is a bit slow to get into at first wiht first week as you got nothing and have to wait on research to complete being the worst, afterwards Completely playable and possible to be in the top 1% players within a reasonable time frame as a free player, "if" you are efficient in getting resources, farming, etc. There are some tricks that can radically improve farming by dozens of folds cutting months (or years) into 2-3 months (or even mere weeks) of farming as you radically rush through mass unlocks and reach end game at blinding speed. Again, completely possible as a free player. The game has no end-game and probably never will though so eventually it may get boring unless you like the core theme which is being a literal walking god (yeah, I don't mean that just thematically, I mean for real to the point you can shutdown other player's ability to even play as you bring forth annihilation to the map, are essentially immortal, etc.). Creativity in builds is key here.

Decent game similar to this, though a bit rough around the edges.

Really, depends on your taste but might be worth looking into

Not quite, but it might possibly catch your interest

From same developer as Code Vein and quite well received. Not quite my vibe, though, so never played it so can't say too much about it.

Anime (not game) that takes place in the same universe as Code Vein and has amazing visuals by the famous ufotable.

The rest of the God Eater trilogy of games (not anime), also in same universe as Code Vein

A bit off but if you dig the story/anime and haven't already seen these... you might like them even though they're not games.

Wow, a lot of games you have there!
Talking about character customisation- its good to have it, but I am fine if the game doesnt have it as long as it has decent story or combat system or even both.
From Software games besides Elden are a bit hardcore for me I think, but mb one day I will try them. Also yes, Lies of P is something I am going to take a look on also due to everybodies recomendations.
The Surge 1 and 2 looks promising , but for now I would prefer some more Anime style games, however storytelling and atmosphere in these games are something that makes me wanna try them
Lords of the Fallen- I havn't heard of this game before so no opinion yet, thanks for mentioning it!
Nioh 1 and 2 is a very complex game series as I heared so when I will have more free time I might try them as well. People said that I need to play them 3 times to understand the ending or somethig lmao
lots of recomendations you have there, thank you!
Oh, cant see some of yor recomendations somehow. There are lots of anime games, thanks!
So, Tales of Arise. There are some things wich stopsm me from buying it. Game is said to be a bit overpriced with wot very well writen characters and also some bosses have dps limitations meaning you have to grind untill you beat them , not just outskill some fights. It makes game a bit brainless to me, but overall raiting is good and it has pluses so I may take it with discount I think.
You also mentioned Ys series.
However, this just look strange. Whats with Ys VIII? it was launched only a year before Code Vein and the differance in graphics is stunning! I mean it looks like it was made in 2008. I am in no position to judje story or combat of these games, its just very hard to start playing them for me when they look so old. I think I can try some of their more morden products.
As for Oath and Origin -they are a bit too grindy to me right now mb later haha
Genshin Impact - Too late for me to start )
You mention Scarlet Nexus, yeah I have it, but thanks
Warframe- a bit another topic but looks intersting! XD
Yeah, gonna check that one . Thanks!
Fortunately, the information you heard is misinformation which is an unfortunate issue with that game.
I'll clarify some points and then you can determine from that, reviews, and what not if you want to buy it, wait on sale, or skip.
- The game is not exactly overpriced. The length is decent. Compared to some prior Tales of games it might be shorter, but only because the older games like Tales of Abyss and such were so ridiculously long. Compared to other games/JRPGs Tales of Arise is normal length and can easily run 30-60+ hours. There are some DLC complaints from some about the game and that may be where the pricing issue comes from. The DLC includes... a number of cosmetics (irrelevant, there are also some in the base game) / boost items (like level +5 levels, boost to experience gain, etc.) but these are actually kind of worthless I'll explain in a moment / Some early starting equipment that is, indeed, fairly powerful but not too far in it starts to fall off (but still, its a pretty significant early boost not that it matters a ton aside from maybe 1 boss, the light boss... wont help you beat anything you can't at low level anyways like that wild boss you will lose against early on), and last some character arts (skills/passives) which are actually not very good (the best skills and stuff are in the base game actually, and way better... meanwhile some of the DLC passives aren't as good as they sound).
In terms of grinding that isn't a thing in this game. Like, you literally cannot grind to get an advantage. The stuff about the free levels from the DLC or exp boosts I mentioned? Basically worthless due to the level system curve. Same for the exp buffs in the base game, itself. Don't use any exp boosting food/gear because they don't help. Basically, the game has an extremely strong exp modifier curve so if you are too high level compared to the enemy you are fighting exp drops to almost zero while if you are under leveled it will give you massive amounts of exp and in only a few battles you will catch up. The curve on exp is so potent it is essentially impossible to be under leveled (unless you skip, very literally, every single optional battle by running or going around monsters, and even then a few battles in a new area will catch you back up almost immediately).
As an example of how strong the exp curve is... Later in the game, a bit over halfway through, there is a completely optional set of three dungeons with super bosses in them that are actually meant as post game content. I did them the moment they became available at around level 35 lol... They're level 60-70 iirc. Meanwhile, until the final boss of the game most of the enemies in the game are level 50 or lower iirc. Due to killing these three super bosses early I think I got to like level 52 or something. Mind you this was only a bit past halfway through the game. Because I fought bosses literally higher level than every enemy and boss in the main story I ended up past their levels. This dropped my exp so low I did not gain another level until the boss of the game (basically did not level even 1 time for half the game). In short, no grinding.
Rather than grinding, what you need to do is use the right strategies and builds. For example the first two bosses are among the harder ones for some people. The first is a fire boss and the second and among hardest is a light elemental boss. There are elemental accessories you can get for not just one but actually multiple characters for those two bosses (and the later ones, too, as the territories are elemental theme but the later ones aren't as hard for most people). These cut those elements by -50% (though the light boss can still be a bit hectic even with that). You can also use defensive food buffs and stuff (so many want MORE DAMAGEEEE!!!! but defensive buffs are actually way better in this game esp if ur issue is... dying lol). There is also an early slime boss that is a bit hectic until you figure out how to manage it which isn't so bad once you realize. Overall, mainly just strategy and equipment setup right. The game doesn't really begin to show off the strategy elements as much until the third region though after the light boss where a random encounter with some very weak enemies leads to a surprise boss dragon showing up lol... and that boss fight is a really good example of how good certain strategies can be and from there onwards in the game.
There are also a few balance issues that can make the game harder than necessary until you realize the obvious solution.
1. Alphen (main character) has these flaming sword skills. They suck. They're a trap that destroy your HP and do bad in most fights until late game where they suddenly become god-tier and can 2-3 shot even the final post game super boss. This only begins once you can make custom equipment though about halfway into the game. Before that they're bad except that slime fight where the AoE can be useful for managing the slimes (or you can leave one slime alive, don't use AoE, and boss will not summon more until the last one is dead).
2. The mage girl has melee range skills by default set to on. Disable them unless you are manually playing her and want to use them. This makes her rarely die when those skills are disabled and she sticks to her ranged magic.
3. Kisara is trash when you get her because she has no dodge but only block. Once she learns a few block upgrades from her skill chart she becomes close to immortal. Very odd balance point...
4. The main female girl Shionne has tons of tricks and is insanely overpowered with some basic analysis.
5. Etc...
One more critical tip. The game, for some insane reason defaults a settings option to "Long queue" for input so it queues up inputs locking you into those actions and preventing you from dodging/changing mind if you aren't super careful. Change this to "Short Queue" at start of game and you will be golden and able to properly dodge and stuff.
My comments are based on the hardest two difficulties from a fresh NG. The game, overall, is easy and quite more skill based than anything.
Character writing is mostly super good (mostly). Main character is bland but nothing to hate. Shionne gets hate depending on who you talk to and is controversial but only because of poor comprehension by some players who aren't paying attention to details or story properly. The game focuses a ton on nuanced unspoken details be it body movements, tone, the way they phrase things, background lore, who they really truly are as a person and their driving motivations, etc. Shionne is, frankly, a very well written character you can understand quite well if you pay attention even from the very start. Law is an interesting one because he starts out not likeable (for obvious reasons) but turns into the glue that surprisingly holds everyone together (even though he has the initial muscle head low IQ type vibe). Rinwell is one of the complicated points because of her background and the racist behavior... She has some driving motivations behind her and there is a specific scene involving her and someone else that some people terribly horribly misunderstanding as people want her to ruthlessly kill a certain character for revenge but someone else tries to stop her because of her state of mind at that time it would cause catastrophic mental damage to her. Some people don't handle the details well of what is going on. She eventually stops being racist btw but yeah... that part is annoying early on as the game approaches gritty themes like this and slavery and stuff.
The one that is causing the biggest issues is perhaps Kisara and Dohalim. Dohalim ranges from being extremely popular to not that well written depending on your tastes (note he is the worst in combat by far, clearly everything points to him being added near end of game development and poorly handled). It isn't "horrible" but he kind of fluctuates between interesting and kind of lame/not well written or even annoying. Kisara ranges from also extremely likeable to moaning over her brother excessively... and also while the fishing stuff is okay it gets a bit too much. Overall, these two are very extreme both ways so its kind of a mixed bag.
Now, despite all this it doesn't mean you will dig the darker themes of slavery, issues of racism, trying to overthrow those greater powers, or some of the other stuff that pops up and you may not like Shionne no matter how well she is written or any other character. This part will depend on your tastes. The game isn't as open as other Tales of games which feature large open maps, instead opting for smaller areas with zoned maps that you can freely wander in but are still relatively linear. The cities are fairly bare minimal in this game, too. Overall, its core offering is the story and combat. Combat ranges from decent to buckling over its own imbalance (hint: Each character has at least one not immediately obvious secretly hyper overpowered skill you can just spam to victory because it is so stupidly OP).
It is a solid game and JRPG but not standout amazing. If you see other games you prefer then getting this on sale seems more advisable when you get done with the games you immediately take an interest into. I do think it is worth full price though if you want a decent JRPG that isn't a masterpiece but is solid. Personally, I would recommend Tales of Abyss over this (sadly not on Steam) and maybe Vesperia (is on Steam), followed by this.
Many of the Ys games are several years older and finally being ported to the west. I'm not sure if VIII is also among the list of older ones but it is their first 3D entry and, much like FROMSoft games (Dark Souls, Elden Ring, etc.) they are less about graphics and more about gameplay, story, and their core offerings from the series each game usually brings with them. They did a bit more higher end stuff in the newest one IX but it is still fairly retro. These games are definitely about the gameplay more than anything.
Oath and Origin are both fairly short and not much grind (unless you play on nightmare, though grinding in these games is mostly fast). The longest ones are the two newest games because of the extra exploration and side content. If curious try the website how longtobeat to get a better idea. THat said, Origin has 3 characters you can playthrough so if we factor all three it does add up but they're just mostly different perspectives and playstyles (the third unlocks later).
Yes, if you aren't a fan of the older stuff it is probably best to start with the modern and if you develop a love for them then consider it. I, personally, recommend Lacrimosa over Monstrum Nox.
You might be surprised. It really depends. If you play these kind of games to be part of the hype then perhaps, at least compared to when it first launched.
However, if you are just wondering if you can play and be relevant then yes, you can. The game is online but technically more like a single player game. There are sometimes events during holidays with multiplayer elements but they're minor and usually have nothing to do with level except maybe a rare combat event (which almost always allows you to get help if need be and has difficulty levels). There is a coop multiplayer element that was poorly implemented and I imagine most don't use as it is so extremely restrictive (at least when I last played). The game is pretty lengthy with all the expansions at this point but it also does have a lot of grind so that may not do it for you. End game is also kind of non-existent easy like Warframe so unless you just like to be stronger for the sake of being stronger you might quit once you reach end game (though before end game has tons of content, again).
As a free player you would have to scour the map for all the collectible gem stuff for that currency to roll for new characters/weapons so it has a bit of a Ubisoft type game feel plus the grind so that is something to seriously consider in case that is a huge no for you. That aside, figuring out how to use characters and team comps is fun.
:D
lol yeah, its a nice game that does the freemium thing pretty well despite having a premium currency. I just wish it had an end game, a true end game because after becoming a literal god on like 40 different frames it gets a bit repetitive without much of a goal at the very end unless you just like to see bigger and bigger numbers lol Definitely a solid game though, just don't let the first week or so turn you off as you start with bare minimum until you start unlocking slots and doing research for new weapons/frames.
Sorry for not replying for so long,
Honestly, thanks for making things more clear for me, I was not very well informed. It sounds reasonable so will try Tales and see how it will go. I kinda want to play it now after your fragment of gameplay.
Will have to wait with Ys series -Elden Ring DLC just appeared so will have to play it for now XD But I guess, I will check it after- its good to have smth to play.
Also big thanks for your reply! You made an actual mini guide lmao, I will gladly use your expirience, thanks a lot!
