Is this any good?
I bought it on sale ages ago. I love RPGs, but haven't really touched JRPGs.

I just finished it on stem deck. Im going to say it was worth my time investment. Although there were some pretty unpolished parts in the middle of the game it got better the further I got. the early half of the game was cool too. I especially liked the environments of the ruined city scape around the carpark.

The game had amaizing character creation that you can change at any point of the game. and the fact that you can switch your build with just selecting a different class in the menu kept the game fresh through the playthrough.

Enemy moves and situations are designed with you having a npc follower in mind. If want to play solo then it can be a bit tidious. But as someone who never uses phantoms it was a new experience for me and I was pleasantly surprised.

I liked the characters but didn't find the story too interesting. Some of the backstories are cool and I really liked them but they are told in an akward way.

Over all above average experience 6.5/10

You could play much worse souls likes. If you have game then play it already.

It's a great game. Amazing customization and a neat story.

Buyed it long ago and started to play it seriously yesterday, i think its ok. It trys to make a stretch between being a souls like and a big story telling anime game. The gameplay suffered for that i guess. But i think overall its one of the better souls like games, at least one of the more polished ones. With 20-30 hours playtime, you get at least something for your money. If you are an anime and story fan, you will like it even more i think ;-)

It's a souls-like with action RPG elements to expand on the player's ability to either adapt or form their own playstyle.
It's on the easier side of souls-like, but I love the story, graphics, and the combat. Easily a game I'd recommend to others, especially if they're wanting a souls-like to dip their toes into the genre.

It's very unpolished and the mobs are kinda unfair, you can be kinda unfair back but it saps a lot of fun out of the game when actually interacting with monsters is a chore.

Which fun build are you talking about?

It's all fun and games until you meet firefly Smough and booby Ornstein. The real meat of this game imo is the very detailed customization and the photo mode. So many cute and cool pose and outfit.

It's a very polished game, what do you mean??? It's not even unfair, you have a ton of tools to use against the more difficult enemies. Most enemies you can just slap with your weapon and you're fine.

Well. I've played God Eater from the same dev before so I kind of know what he meant. Many enemies feel like their designing direction got confused halfway through about whether this is a souls game or a monster hunter game. This is most obvious when you're playing against bosses like Cannonneer and Bladebearer, the equivalent of Smough and Ornstein. I won't go into details because it's been talked about many times before on other forums but suffice to say, this would have been a lot less frustrating experience if the game doesn't forget itself that it's God Eater very often.

So, if you asked me around the time it released, I'd say it's a pretty competent Soulslike. But I've been replaying it, and it is rough. The story, setting, and visuals have always been weak, but at the time it offered a speedier, more boisterous alternative to Souls combat. Now, it seems most of the Soulslikes that come out are pretty fast and have cute gimmicks, and most of them have better gamefeel, animations, and visuals.

The main thing this game has going for it is its relative accessibility and being able to freely swap classes and skills. This game is a steal at $10 or lower, but it's not great.

Relative to RPGs in general... Well, it's an action RPG. It's not about the story as much as fighting a lot, making your own builds, and watching numbers go up. So if you're excited about that, this game's got it.

I still play this crap, because its good (not best, just "good")... if you bought it on sale: dont regret - just dont buy DLCs if you dont want *only* different skin enemies with higher dmg and hp... and useless weapons for insane challanges on *already* hard bosses.

As for story, common "shonen issekai" no.14, Yuyu Hakusho would be good comparison - it has emotions, pride and fight scenes with your *own* (created) character. Acting is similar to any action story, each word must be accompanied with movements of whole body (especially if characters wear a mask, just to know they are talking), and just as in Dark Souls: there are many hidden stories and nit-bits about characters/items if you are in that stuff.

Game challange is decent, if its too easy: there are 4 (if you are lucky to hit them each re-run) endings and each re-run *can be* "harder" just like in DS series, but if you find it "too challanging", unlike "Souls games" - you can just progress in strength without adding difficulty (its an option in safe area after completing story, you will have all the gears you collected and strength, but enemies reamains the same, drop will remain same as well thou - not bigger, as enemies are the same).

Its a cool appocaliptic sci-fi fantasy game with hack and slash fights and advanced mechanics like parry or back-stab. yet its not Sekiro if you seek challange... someone even called it "fashion souls spinnoff" or "weeb-souls".

Game have good replay-ability for at least once: after that, its just lore/achievement/challange hunt... but to be honest, just dont "over-play it", after first run, give yourself a decent time to play second one.... co-op is dead, so dont expect any miracles - maybe on discord.

About "grind", there are areas like "dungeons" which let player gather resources.... but the best part is: once you finish them, you can repeat them *just for boss/es*, no need to walk them whole again, you just "pop up" and go *straight* for the boss. (spawning point is near them)

As for mechanics, dont force yourself to understand them, use "try and fail"... no need to understand how back-stab or parry works, just let it grow on you, i still dont use parry even after almost 1k of gameplay hours - but its up to you.

As for companion, your taste decides: Yakumo and Io are best healers as they survive long enough and have hp to give (your companion can revive you), others depends on fighting style and personal prefferences... but AI mostly dont know how to survive. :/

As for my personal enjoyment: i created many characters that are similar to existing characters (anime/games) and rose them up from lvl1. Its grind of its own... if you *really* want to play as your favorite character from anime/game, pick a tutorial or made them by yourself! This game is just like "Anime character creator: test your character in fight!". :D

Well said! It may be worth adding that it is possible to change character build and appearance anytime, don't need to start over. It is very convenient!
