Instead of placing down a summon sign, the host can put out a Distress signal that just passively searches for people who are trying to play multiplayer. Kind of like the Blue Sentinels from DS3.
On the other hand, to find a game, you just have to spam the search button until you get a match. Unfortunately, this locks your character in place, so you need to choose between just playing solo or searching for a match. Alternatively, there's a password system like Dark Souls to make matching with friends easier.
Overall, the co-op is structured the same way as Souls/Elden Ring in that you're only summoned to fight the boss and once it's dead, you're disconnected.
