How to parry?
Its not before their attack and its not just before they hit, its also not as they're swinging. How do i parry? I honestly dont know, its definitely not a timing thing. It seems almost every enemy fully ignores they parry and hits you?

When your character flashes white. Not all Blood Veils have the same timing, just parry the air and observe. Note that you do have like a one second window after you flash white where it will still go through.

Calm your mind, learn enemy moves and then parry before its attack hits you.

Also do parry on normal mob , not boss.

(Some DLC boss required you to do parry to gain some mini-achievement.)

The Blood Veil type you wear affects the timing too, so stick to one veil type until you're more familiar with it.

During your parry animation, your character will briefly flash. Only when you are struck during that flashing will the parry actually work.

The problem is i parried one of the weakest mobs at the very beginning of the game, it was a spear holder, it went straight through my parry and into me multiple time. I've tried every possible timing. Its actually a joke.

Ok so the animation actually really doesnt mean anything then, as long as you flash white your fine?

more or less. like for example the one you get with the prayer robe (a bunch of blades blocking in front of you) is really hard to time imo because the animation doesn't really compliment the parry system that well imo. same with blood hounds, just get an idea of how long it takes before you flash white in the animation and go from there. fastest ones are the ones where you just have like a claw.

The one that has the swords coming out of the ground (I think Festival Thorn) I was trying earlier has an absolutely insane (as in fairly absurdly forgiving) parry window in my messing around with it earlier. I am still fairly early in but I can't imagine others typically being that long. That said, its drain attack, aside from parry/back, is outright uber garbage due to how slow it is making it actually unfeasable even via Combo drain in combat.
